I am trying to do some transparent images in Quark from PS. I know that you have to use a Path and set it as a clipping path then save as a TIFF. Not a problem there. The problem is that I still get slight fuzzy edges even when the path is set far from the edges.

Is there something that I am missing?

I have tried to use the same CMYK settings from Quark to PS but when I put them into Quark the background color is always darker than the color in Quark.

Tips anyone? ....

And yes..........I did search Google

well... not knowing the first thing about quark, I assume the image in question is rendered to a tiff at a specific resolution? Maybe that resolution is 'off' leading to 'dirty' resampling?

Well unless you are printing to a Postscript printer QuarkXpress (3 & 4) will simply print the screen preview image which is causing both problem. It will not actually send the full resolution image to the printer there my reducing your print quality. I assume nothing has changed much in later versions, but I've gave up on QuarkXpress Long ago. Best to switch to InDesign when you can.

If you don't have a Postscript printer your best bet is to generate a PDF file, then using Acrobat Reader to print the file to the not postscript printer using it's "print as Image" option.

You might also check into ghostscript with ghostgum, it's an open source Postscript RIP. Generate pdf files or Bitmaps of your postscript file, if lucky it may even support your printer directly.

so... you're getting that white outline no matter where you're setting your path, right?

yeah.....pretty much. I fiddled around with it enough that I managed to get it out. I have to set the path way inside of the image for it to not have any outline.

How did you create the clipping path? If it was with the magic wand, then yes, you will get fuzzy edges. The best way to create a clipping path is to use the Pen Tool in PS, then you get clean sharp edges. If you don't know how to do this, have a look at these links:
