What is it that you guys indulge in? What is it that you spend way too much time or money on that brings you gratification?

For me, its Starbucks & Godvia chocolate. When I'm home from school, I must swing by Starbucks two or three times a day. The odd thing is I'm not a coffee drinker. Depending on the season I buy Black Tea Lemonade or some of the various Frappachinos. I easily spend a $75 a week in Godiva. I buy all of my snacks there, hot chocolate, truffles, you name it.

I couldn't live without those two things. Fortunately, they're available nearby at home and school.

$75 a week for starkbucks????? I buy food for a whole month for less than that.
Way less, actually!
And I'm one of the better fed biology students around.

But what I indulge in is licorice... they have this brand here in germany, hard licorice in 'kitten' shape... hm.... now I need to visit my kitchen (fortunatly, it's cheap (~88cents/250g) and I don't consume that much of it - or my blood would have so much pressure that it would come out of my skin)

TP, Godiva not Starbucks. I'm addicted to their chocolate. I'm constantly swinging by and picking up a lb of truffles or chocolate covered strawberries, etc.

writing utensils -

I've got a big ol' bag on a shelf above my computer. I've got untold dozens stashed away in various drawers. I even have a "safe" box tucked away in the closet.
Ballpoints and felt of various sizes and styles.
Calligraphy markers and a damn nice set of real nibs.
I've got some hard bristle brushes and a red sable that I baby.
A genuine bambo brush. This thing is a monster.
That's not even getting into my chaulk, wax, water, oils, and various other things.

I even keep a "secret" stash of various writing utensils that I "begrudgingly" allow others to "borrow". I gotta keep the real stuff safe. Know what I mean?

Might sound more like a hobby, but it is an indulgence.
Nothing like the smooth feel of a brand new ballpoint on a fresh piece of paper.
I mean, smooooth.

for me it is, yeah, starbucks. i generally hit my local one 5 mornings a week, 6 if i work saturdays (which i have the last several). venti upside down carmel macchiato, total cost of about 20 bucks a week or a bt less since i've got several friends that work there and give me a buck or so off my reasoning is that it is too much to spend on coffee, but by the time i've been at work for 15 minutes i've paid for the cup and its worth it to put me in a good mood, tho i realize its prob mostly psychosomatic

my other would be, i have to say, clothes, i have good taste for a guy and the salespeople at express are getting to know me by name. its mostly because i'm working contract and getting paid well at the moment so i have the expendable cash tho, and i've been cutting back

Beer and Books.

Not that I drink so much beer, but what I drink is more expensive than I should be buying at times.

Of course, between the two, I still don't come close to spending $75 a week

Even if I had $75 a week to waste.....I just couldn't.

Ah... indulgences.... I can't talk about most of my induglences in a public forum...

Godiva chocolates... mmmm... (insert Homer Simpson drool here...) - Jestah, you are a man after my own heart. In my family, if you don't want chocolate, there is something wrong with you... If I could live on it, I would. It's one of my "indulgences"...

I also enjoy long lazy afternoons spent reading on the couch... when I have the opportunity to pull it off. Of course, it usually necessitates a lot of procrastination...

Long, hot showers... nothin' like a long, hot shower. Not P.C. to take long showers anymore, what with water conservation and all, but occasionally, when the hubby is not home and not needing one, I will spend at least an hour...

I could go on...

Food must be awfully cheap in Germany... food for a month is ~$200 here.

DDR is my addiction... I play it compulsively until my legs give out underneath me. It's sooo much fun.

Coffee.

I like it very much.

I get up around 4:45am most mornings and brew a strong pot. It's the first thing I do when I get up.

Sometime around 9:00am, I leave the house and go into the world to do things and so I have a Starbucks card. I go there daily use it. I love a couple of shots of espresso thrown into the regular drip coffee. They call that a "black eye" or "red eye" depending on how many shots you get.

But some mornings my stomach just can't handle the pure stuff so I get a triple tall breve latte... which is just half & half and espresso all nice and hot. The fat seems to take the edge off quite nicely.

Later in the day, if I find myself craving some more, I use a Melitta one to one coffee maker that uses coffee pods. You can brew a very nice cup of coffee using coffee pods purchased from podhead.com with that maker. It's not real strong but the quality is superb and mild enough to ease into the evening.

So, yeah, I would have to say... coooffeeeee

I can see how that would happen... I'm a fair hand at chess myself, though I'm not up on the names of the moves or anything... I can win, or at least stalemate if I try hard enough...

It's a good game. Underrated these days, but still a good game.

I share one of Jamie's indulgences - beer. if it's on special, i'll buy premium beer. And not the same one either, a different one each time.
Wine as well, I suppose. It's not a regular indulgence though.

I'm trying to think what else takes more than a fair share of my cash... but i think beer is the main one.

Gourmet Cooking .. the "I cook - you eat" type ... oh - and the other way around too of course, but I enjoy the doing and inventing as much as the eating and drinking ...

and Godiva just don't do it for me, they're just chokkies - it has to be Leonidas or it ain't a praline (max recommended shelf life < 4 days - it's the fresh cream in the fillings you see - but there again, I've never seen a Laeonidas shop which doesn't rotate a whole shop full in less than 48 hours ...

and strong Belgian Beer - Westmalle trippel, Rochefort 10 or 12, La Trappe trippel, Duvel, and so on, and so on ....

I guess that's why I'm 25% overweight ... groan!
