Would any of you care to take a stab at my new network difficulty? I've set up the hardware, and both PCs can access the internet. I got stumped trying to share the printer... Just need a prod or two in the right direction. Here's the skinny:

Main PC:
Dell 4600C Pentium 4 2.5 GHz, 256 DRAM, 40 GB HD, integrated ethernet, running WinXP Pro

2nd PC:
Mishmash system Celeron P3 Equiv 600 MHz, 384 RAM, 20 GB HD, D-Link PCI Ethernet Adapter, running Win2k Pro

D-Link Ethernet Broadband Router - configured per set up manual instructions

Toshiba PCX-2500 External Cable Modem/Road Runner Cable Internet Connection

Ok, I ran the Network Setup on the Dell, and it asked me to create a network set up disk for the other computer, but I can't because I don't have a floppy drive on the pc (that was the error message I received anyway...). Besides, the disk doesn't work for Win2k Pro anyway (found that out by reading a little further down the page, go figure).

I'm poking around on the Win2k system to see if I can find some sort of equivalent network setup, but not having much luck...

I tried to set my printer (USB connection to the Dell) to allow Sharing, but the program tells me it can't complete the operation and won't save the change. Of course, when I go to look for the printer from the 2nd pc, I can't get to it (not Shared, obviously)

What have I missed in the set up? What settings or services can I check on both computers that will make this work?

I'm a complete noobie when it comes to networks, so feel free to explain the basics in detail. As always, thanks in advance for your gracious assistance!

Thanks for the link NoJive. I will check out some of those things when I get home tonight.

This requires a little more that the "plug n' play" set up that the components offered! I guess if I had WinXP on both machines, it would be easier.

This is causing another problem though... I noticed, when I went to shut down the systems yesterday evening before a thunderstorm came though, that the internet connection on the WinXP machine had become unavailable, and for some reason, I couldn't get it back working. Tried rebooting and all that... I didn't mess with it much because 1) thunderstorm on the way and 2) I was tired of it by then...

It's possible some of this is related to settings I can check via that link NoJive offered, but if anyone else has any ideas about this, I would appreciate some additional input.
Thanks...
(I'm trying not to call my dad to come look at it - it'd be nice to do myself, and he'll just take over the project instead of teaching me how...)

Copy & paste your original message into this... check back every few hours or whenever ... you'll get an answer. Found one close...but not exact. Sorry 'bout the ugly link. =)

Thanks - I'll get on those. Surely I'll get it worked out eventually. Can't do anything until after 5 though - trapped at work...
