Just wondering something. I was on a cleaning frenzy this morning and got really agrivated. The chords and hardware that are all hooked to my computer.

What do you all do with this excessive amout of just that is needed for your computer.

I have sitting on top of my case a Router / Firewall, cable modem, zip drive and my usb card reader for my camera. behind my computer is a big pile of chords that are all jumbled up like a Nematoda of worms. It's very annoying.

So.........do you all mount your hardware such as router / firewall? What do you do to "organize" the chords?

I believe that the cords that give life to my computer and all it's lil gadgets, also have a life of their own. I can oh so carefully untangle them when I hook everything up...and the next time that I have to move my computer or hook something up, they are all miserably tangled. I know they weren't like that when I left them the last time. I've basically given up on trying to keep them untangled.

I coil up all the excess of each wire and use one of those twisty ties to keep it that way. Then if it's possible, (it's not with all of the cords) I attach them in one manner or another to the back side of my desk. That keeps them out of view and off of the floor.

Now if somebody could teach my dog to stop shaking his head and flinging doggie spit on my monitor I'd be a happy man.

I have that problem with my toy collection. my water spaniel like to stick her wet nose all over the plastic cases

I was thinking of actually using some chord retainers that are used on some of the amps we build. I could probably bunch 2 - 3 of them together and hang them from the back of my computer. funny........i was thinking about doing that and butcher does it that way.

Lacuna...i swear my chords have a life of their own too. then again it could be that water spaniel re-arranging them for me.

I've just recently set up my system at my Ma's and all the leads/cables/wires etc were beautifully bound together with a couple of polka-dot ribbons. Then today I got back online with my own sweet modem (mmmmmmmmm) and now it's like spagetti junction!.
'Tis good to be back.

Twist ties are your best friend. Not to mention that you can gain millions of them just by buying a few trash bags at the store.

I have some largeish zip ties screwed to the back of my desk that i feed all my cables through... to keep them up off the ground... for the most part. The rest are looped and ziptied up in neat little bundles. *chokes*cough*

My cords being messy serves a purpose; it allows easier accidental hitting with my foot therefore unhooking 3 cords from my computer, and tearing down my PDA holder, speakers and more.

Sphaggetti Junction looks pretty clean compared to mine. I have about 5 cords to my left for.... one is a big power thing leading to no-where yet still plugged in... one's for my cable... and the other 3 just lead into the abbys (behind my bookshelf) with only one coming out, to go into the floor under the door-frame *traces where it goes* it leads to behind my washer and dryer . Lets see, behind my computer is a connection for a digital camera, one mouse, one printer that's not connected, and my headphones, and power and screen, and the rest I can't recognize. My brother's computer is neat at the back, but behind it is a jumble of cords. To the right I have one 8-year-old printer, a 4 year old printer, 4 speakers (though we use headphones) a scanner, not plugged in--and what is plugged in we don't use. Underneath the 4 year old printer is just cords, I can't see what they're connected to, a joystick, and some random wire from an old radio kit. To the right and up above that is a massive stack of paper that I don't know where it came from, but it's got some cords round it. I have a printer that's connected from 2 years ago, which--oh wait, no that's not connected.

Behind my computer desk, old cords that aren't connected are hanging off ones that are connected, and the ones that are connected are basically wrapped around eachother in a jumbled mess.

I like to keep things tidy

The other other other other other white meat.
