I know I'm usually not very active around these parts of the Asylum... it just isn't really my metier.

Nevertheless, ->mas and I whipped up a quick site for SmartTab (which some of you might have seen around these parts already).

So, if you'd be so kind as to review http://www.smarttab.org/

Thank you,
->Tyberius Prime

PS: I know it doesn't validate - stupid CMS. There's nothing I can do about those entities short of turning of the DirectEdit feature... and I don't want to do that.

btw... it also offers a new version of SmartTab which feels much faster - so download anew.

Looks good. Simple, clean, everything easily readible, etc.

Nothing to get excited about as far as design, but for something like this, of course, it shouldn't be.

It does it's job very well.

(and I love smartTab too)

btw there is still a problem with some old browsers. they render a vertical space between the content and the footer. i am not sure, but i still think its the hidden link.

Tyberius Prime: The design is ok. But three things puzzles me :

  • the style of the heading class which may be confused with the links. That especially confusing on the Download page.
  • IMHO the white outline around the logo doesn't work. I think it should cast a little shadow on the main area, or have a darker outline.
  • The Customize page should be a bit more explicit. The image with 5 examples of custom colors overlaping is confusing, and it'll be great to include the infos of the Customization Example directly in the Customize page.

I hadn't tried SmartTab as I wasn't really annoyed by the default task switcher, but one detail on the screenshots of SmartTab seemed weird, visually speaking. So I just downloaded it to make sure. The box around the selected application fits the size of its name instead of that of the whole window. It'd look better if the foreground color was applied on the width of the SmartTab window. Oh, and as I'm picky tonight, let's go on and mention that it'd rock if it was possible to use the mousewheel to switch between the applications in SmartTab.

Whatever SmartTab is so cool I've had to stop it to remember how the default task switcher was and that it's less usable than SmartTab.
just my 0.02?

[edit] I noticed a typo on the home page, in " So he set out to create a replac_ment: " [/edit]

poi: i agree with 2 of your points:
the style of the heading class confuses a bit on the download page indeed, thats true.
and:
the scrollbar thingie...weee that would be awesome i am sure TP can do this too?!

however, i personally think the border of the logo is ok, i think that simply differs from person to person.

thanks for your feedback... I'll digest it all for a bit and hopefully on the weekeend, get around to fix some of the (minor) problems.

In between, spread the word about Smarttab ;-)

mas: Indeed, design reviews are highly subject to personnal tastes.
Tyberius Prime: I just spread the word about SmartTab. Will you add the mouse wheel support ? please, I'll be kind.

I've implemented mouse-wheel for the newest beta - once it's been shown to actually work, I'll update the main page.

hey! I like it (my first look, in my startup folder now, thanks TP)!

I usually don't even consider installing something like this but since it was a teeny exe that used minimal resources I gave it a whirl, and I'm glad.

As Poi pointed out... the style of the heading class is confusing... Underlines should be reserved for links

also confusing is the fact that the download link is larger than the header. Other than that, and the other things mentioned, it looks pretty good tho

Looking good. I expecially like the Ozone Asylum & Dull color schemes.
