I am importing a .jpg image into CorelDraw, the resolution is 300. When I import this image into CorelDraw:

1. Even though the image is basically 1 inch x 1.5 inches it comes in at a huge size that I must shrink down, why is it coming in so large? It is hard to estimate the correct size, this is causing my image to be pixaly.

2. Even though the image is 300 resolution it comes in at 96 dpi and when I go to print, the program is showing me an error message that it has a really low dpi, why?

I looked breifly at the spec's and as far as I can tell JPEG's don't a resolution ( dpi/ppi) setting. There for most Jpegs default to what ever the application sets as a default for resolution. As jpegs are designed for use on the web and there for screen display, most software defaults to 72 or 96dpi, (Screen Resolution) depending on your platform.

The exception is I believe Photoshop, it will honor the resolution place in the jpegs it has written. Most likly it is storing it as part of the meta data, or some custom extended tag, which is not being read by your other applications. I have expermented but I would bet, the resolution data is also not encoded when you use save for web. You could try using Save As instead, and see if Corel will honor the resolution setting there. But I would doubt it. The simplest thing would be to choose another fromat. I would us a tiff, as it does support a resolution tag.
