It's renewal time for my NAV 2002 and my friend Google has surprisingly been no help with this question. I'm wondering if someone has any clues as to whether a regularly updated version 2002 is equivalent to the latest version. Symantec's website doesn't seem to offer any clues either but that may just be me versus a machine

I don't think this is any big secret.... but simply download the file you see there..... execute it when it's done.... your definitions are now fresh.

Thanks NJ; maybe I didn't explain myself properly . I always do the updates as they become available but as it's now time to renew my subscription for the year, I'm wondering whether it might not be better to buy a whole new NAV 2005. I can't seem to find out if a regularly updated 2002 version provides the same level of protection as a new 2005 version.

Thanks for digging outcyder, but I'm getting the dreaded 404 on that link.

Thanks outcyder, got it. Dunno why but when I Googgled the link, it opened with the old 404 again for some reason but the info I needed (that you found) was in the Google cached pages. Round about way but I've got the message - pay for an upgrade rather than a renewal - many thanks for the help.

dude you are using your toaster, not going to work, go to the c-o-m-p-u-t-e-r. Just kidding of course I can copy/paste text below

quote:
What is the difference between an upgrade and a subscription renewal?
An Upgrade is the purchase of a new version of a Symantec product to replace your older version. When you purchase an upgrade, you purchase a full version of the product. To purchase an upgrade please visit www.symantecstore.com and click on "Upgrade" in the left frame.

If the product uses subscriptions, then the purchase includes a new subscription. Typical Symantec products that use subscriptions include Norton AntiVirus, Norton Internet Security, Norton Personal Firewall, and Norton SystemWorks.
New versions may include new features and compatibility with newly released operating systems or operating system updates (service packs).
A Subscription Renewal is a service that you purchase to continue to receive virus definition files and/or content filter lists that the service provides. When you renew your subscription, you buy the service that provides the virus definition files and/or content filter lists for 12 months. For help with subscription issues please see the Subscription Troubleshooter.

Subscriptions do not add new features to your Symantec product, and do not make that product compatible with new versions of the Windows operating system. When you purchase a subscription, you are not purchasing a new version of the product
Subscriptions are used to keep your product aware of new security threats such as new viruses or new Web sites that you might want to block from your computer.

Oh no, that's why the letters I print are so hard to read and don't last very long; they taste alright though

Many thanks for the cut and paste; an upgrade is imminent - not over my dial up tho! Cheers.

if that's the case, then you don't want Nortons...

...you could try FDA Antivirus, but appliance worms are on the decline anyway... it's been years since the last time I got a virus in my toaster... just be careful to not eat any unrequested or suspicious toast...
