Picture of Amidamaru. I like the 'The devil may care, but I sure as hell don't' sort of look to his eyes. I asked komala (the original artist) if i could color it.

I know I still have a lot of practicing to do, but I feel I am getting better. I am even getting braver in posting my work now. This is 100% paintbrush in photoshop

This is komala lineart!

This was only COLORED by ME!

Amidamaru (from Shaman King) is owned by Hiroyuki Takei.

Tools: Photoshop 4.0

This is really nice Wolfen !!! Mind you I am no expert when it comes to painting PS despite the fact I am playing around with it and the results are disasterous at the best of times. Even I can see the changes everytime you post your work.

I hope you keep it up ... !

Wow, this is a big improvement! Anyways, my crits would be to increase the contrast a little bit. Also, although the shading is nice, it'd be cool to see you experiment with color some more. You seem to have it down, but it appears you're "playing safe," a lot of the time. Maybe play with specular lighting a bit, as well.

Great work again Wolfen. I too can see the progression in your work. What sized canvas are you working on? Or is this the full size?

Can't stress enough how much your work has progressed recently, Wolfen. It seems that Photoshop suits you better than illustrator did (for this kind of work anyway).

The overall balance of light/shadow in this piece is very nice.

The only thing I would suggest is to pick out a few places to really throw in the highlights strong. If I have a chance, I'll try to post an example of what I mean.

a quick example -

Painted a little sloppy, but the idea is there. Just a few simple spots here and there, to emphasize where the peak of an object is, or where the light is brightest, etc, can go a really long way.

sib: Well I want to be good enough to be hired for coloring projects and comissions. Just keep practicing and talking with professionals, that is what I do.

cfb: That is the first that I have heard of specular lighting. I will have to read up on that. One of the downfalls of being self-taught. There is so much I do not know. Thank you.

Tao: That is full size.

DL: Well, you should check out my deviantart gallery and see what I have been doing the last year or so. I have not touched Illustrator since last year, whereas I have been working with photoshop almost every other night for about 4 hours a night for the since then. (Except the month of july, I needed to take some time off there.) I post most of my work deviantart. I am quite proficient with both programs though, just photoshop is my stronger skill, and to think I am doing all of this with a mouse. I want to be good enough to take comissions.

I can see your point with the highlighting, it does give an extra kick. I am still too timid with the highlights. I will need to work on that.
