A better version. Has transparency, has 16 colors, and filesize is cut from 59 to 19 KB.

Testing... The things I'm stuck with are these:

1) My name. I really need to have it in or on there somewhere, I've had some nasty cases of stealing going on. (Nimraw, if you read this: I've got the mail and I'm dealing with it.)
Related to that: a font. I sketched a lot of things, but I can't come up with something snowflakey.

2) How should I end the animation? I can loop it backwards, but that'd make no sense. Melting is also a possibility, and the most likely one.

Anyway, as it's once again midnight, I'll be signing off.

Comments? Crists? Questions?

I kind of expected the outward color effect to continue with other colors (appearing in the same way, just over the blueness), eventually looping to the background (transparent) color appearing with the same outward motion from the center.

I look at this great piece of work and I am reminded of the begining of the Grinch movie when they zoom into Whoville from a snowflake... So in that vein, how about a zoom into one branch of the snowflake where your name can be embossed/printed/etched/whatever on?

...Just a thought.

When I saw that I immediately had to think about the imminent doom & destruction that would happen when the snowflake would touch the ground, or worse, melted.

Mahjqa , why don't you have your name temporarily appear as the snowflake melted from the inside out as part of the melting process. Use the negative space for your name. The font could be anything rounded with maybe some distortion to make it more watery/fluid.

Just my two pennies...

You know, I just keep coming back to this trhead to look at the snowflake over and over again. That is such awesome work, mahjqa. You've got some of the best sigs here, I'm blown away by them. Looking forward to seeing how you integrate your name in there.

Well, your name has six letters - the flake twelve tips - you could put one letter on/in/around every second tip - nice and discreat...

I swear, I just LOVE your work! I'm almost like, well, mahjqa's already topped it, why even bother? Except I like to fiddle with the program...

I agree that a nice melty effect would be good, maybe into snowdrifts over your name at the bottom... Can't think of a good way to explain it, and don't have enough time to try to illustrate at the moment... Use a sort of rounded, snow-drifty looking font.

It is a crying shame that folks can't be honest enough to request permission to use a graphic - mahjqa, you are all too willing to assist people's journey into their own animation skills, and it really sucks that there's still people out there who feel the need to steal your work. Hope you get it resolved quickly and reletively painlessly!

I shall not debase the thread with my own small sigs - your stuff should stand alone!

Whee! New version! Took a while, I know. Anyway. Once again, 16 colors. 66783 bytes. Too much work. Crisp & clear.

I'll try to post some explain-y-gifs in half an hour or so.

The animation of the snowflake is actually quite simple. The lines were on 4 different layers: (left half of the pic)



The layers simply grew outward, one at a time. if you look closely, you can see them following eachother outwards.
