I'm considering a starting a project called the "Design Directory Project" (DDP) like that of the now defunct Minimalist Web Design Project (MWDP). The difference between DDP and MWDP will be extensibility. The DDP would be located at ddp.gfxdesigner.com whenever a site is built. This project would complement my gfxdesigner.com project which I'll be drafting a business plan for soon.

These are a few key features I think would be useful:

  • Multiple categories and subcategories of Web design (e.g., not only minimalism but other styles as well)
  • Database-centric systems for easy administration of entries and approval of submissions
  • A free "hotlist" directory like CreativeHotlist.com

Nothing is set in stone. The concept is an open book.

Anyone interested in helping with this project? I realize I haven't given much direction to the DDP idea but if you have any questions, ask away.

*Skaarjj raises his hand*

I'd like to give this a burl. Where do you need me? I have some experience in site design, and my CSS work has improved alot since anyone around here last saw it, and I can also code in PHP.

I tried. I'll just post what I sent here.

quote:
Skaarj, I haven't assessed the real-world needs of such a project as of this e-mail, however, I do know that the project will require a Web designer proficient in HTML/CSS, a Web developer proficient in PHP/SQL, a small Internet marketing force, and a band of volunteer design-critical and design-sensitive cataloguers. The Web designer and Web developer roles could be assumed by a single person; although, I think it is best to maintain divided roles so that the workload per volunteer doesn't interfere with their lives external to the project.

Which role fits your capabilities best? Choose it and its yours.

By the way, I can also set you up with a POP mail (or forwarder) account (@gfxdesigner.com) if you want.

I also setup a virtual private office on ddp.gfxdesigner.com/vpo/ but you'll need to get your login data from me.

...and I thought... well, nevermind. There doesn't seem to be significant interest in this project.
