Ok, can't some to find what I'm looking for here.

I have two paths. They don't intersect anywhere. Just two paths....hanging out side by side.

I want to make them one path.

Not as in, I want to connect the two. I want them to remain seperate segments, but now I want the two segments to be one path.

I know I could have done it that way from the start....where one part would be a 'sub-path', but I didn't. And I don't want to redo this.

Can I do this?? Is it something stupid I am overlooking? Or did I screw the pooch here?

Select them how?

I can't seem to select more than one path, which is really the root of the problem.

Perhaps I'm just too tired.....

Use the Path Selection tool and drag select them simple. Now in the Options bar press Combine you got two paths that are now one!

Either we're talking about two different things, or I'm a bit slow tonight.

I have a path. Let's say it's called "path 1"

I have another path, let's say it's "path 2"

In the paths palette, I click on path 1, and it's visible, and I can edit it. I click on path 2, and it is now the active path, and path 1 is not visible or editable.

How do I have both paths visible and editable in order to select them both?

I hope the pooch enjoyed it.

I'm not really following you here. Are the segments different layers in the paths palette? If so, select the second path's name in the paths palette. Hold down the control key to get the selection tool (command on a Mac). Drag a marquee to enclose and thus select the entire path. Cut(Control/Command+x). Switch to the first path in the paths palette. Paste.

If they are on the same layer in the paths palette, I guess I don't see what the problem is....

Oh - you posted while I was typing. I don't know how to get two paths (on separate paths layers) visible at the same time. Make 'em on the same layer.

D'oh!

Thank you Steve.

Yes, different layers - thus the problem. As stated, I'm feeling a bit slow, and a cut/paste is what I needed to resolve this...sheesh....

Apparently, the pooch has been saved from such an unkind fate

{{edit - templar - for all your arrogant sarcasm, your method in fact does *not* work. I am not a moron, and I know what the tools are. I also attempted a variety of methods similar to what you are so assininely spelling out, none of which had the desired result.

Steve's suggestion is exactly what I needed, and though I have made it clear that my mind is clouded, yours is quite obviously as well.

The difference is, I'm not here being a raving asshole about it.

Sorry for the sarcasim but's that's me!

Also what I suggested actually does work, I use Illustrator mostly so I know my paths. I thought you were talking about getting them to be one path particlarly from your post:

quote:
I want to make them one path.

That pretty much says it all!!

Once again the sarcasim... live with it I'm in no hurry to check out of the Asylum!!

Templar - Perhaps we are using different versions (7.0 here), or perhaps you are still not grasping what I mean, but I assure you that what you suggested did not have any effect as far as selecting two seperate paths - as in two seperate path-layers in the path palette.

Sarcasm is one thing. Being an outright asshole is altogether different. One thing comes in handy - always assume that you might be the one misunderstanding before you jump to the conclusion that it is the other person.

Steve - I guess it would depend on the pooch No, barley and hops is my intended cure though =)
