Nice - I can't drag or manipulate that in any way, and I certainly don't get any new files appearing anywhere - so I'll simply repeat what I've said before:

If you're using bog standard Windows (patched or not) in this day and age, then you are just asking for your PC to be a**-raped.

It shouldn't be up to Microsoft to fix all these holes - how else would they make back-hander money from the virus writers (the same people who sell you subscriptions to their AV software updates, etc).

What do you expect, a fully-working system that never needs service packs, patches, hot fixes, etc? Do you expect these people to make money from software licensing? Please!

Is quite a harsh assumption, I know it's a common one but I actually get slightly disturbed by it.

1. Why would MS need the pitful sums that the (alledged) viruswriters at AV sw-houses might provide? With the market shar MS has had for the last decade or 2 their vaults are filled to the brim anyway.

2. Do you have anything that backs up that statement at all, other than urban legends?

Ok, I never did test this by actually dropping the file in the demo, I just spoke to a guy who did, and just so you know, the exe starts as the pc boots up and sets your screen on fire (not for real...) plus it seems to leave an entry in the msconfig startup as well.

Yes, I did this without knowing exactly what the purpose of it was, and imagine my surprise when I turned on my computer and saw the exe launch! =)

Thankfully a google search helped me figure out what had happened.


 

DmS - try not to take that so seriously. I wrote in another thread that Schrodinger was killed at a very ripe old age by a fish whilst sitting in an out-house on his boxed-sheep farm in Wales, during a freak fish shower.

I actually have no evidence for either.

It would take someone with more expertise than I to prove that a hole was a result of poor workmanship, or deliberately drilled during fabrication.

I actually hadn't heard about back-handers (I made that up) so the discovery that this is an existing 'urban legend' is very interesting to me indeed...

Now, if you were offended by my harsh assumption, pass my comments along to whoever your mate is at Microsoft, and see what he/she thinks of them.

Slime, how did you get rid of this.. I cannot find a thing on google, safe mode wont let me delete it, virus scan doest find it... im at a loss here.

One thing is for sure. No more IE for me, this proves it. I am getting sick of seeing "fire" when I reboot... and I cant do a thing about it

Do a search for malware.exe on your computer and delete it and then empty the trash bin. You can then do one of 2 things, either run msconfig and in the startup tab uncheck the box nex to the line that has the word malware in it somewhere and then click apply, or if your comfortable with messing in your registry you can find the entry for malware and remove it. This shouldn't be done lightly if your not sure about it as you can cause yourself a bit of trouble doing the wrong thing in the registry.

At least that's the way I got rid of it.
