Ok - I've got a new position, and I'll be moving to a new office at the beginning of October. I have to clean off my computer in this office first, and have been backing stuff up all morning.
I have been using Thunderbird to access my home email from work, and have a folder of stuff I want to save and transfer to my new office pc. (Knowing I had the files here at work, I did not save them on my pc at home... did not expect to be getting a new job until very recently)

Problem: Thunderbird does not seem to have an accessible export/archive feature.

Suggestions as to how I should go about saving these emails to transfer the folder?

I tried simply copying the folder over to a place in Explorer so I could back it up on CD, but that didn't work. All the Thunderbird FAQ has on the subject is that most email clients have an import feature that will read the folder. That doesn't really help me when I'm moving from one computer to another...

Any help is most appreciated.

(I've been away for a while, Fall registration takes up a lot of time for about 6-8 weeks or so... but I expect to be back around here more frequently in the near future... Got me a new job in a new office with hopefully much less traffic, and quieter phones... Sweet!)

edit: I guess, in a pinch, I could import back over to Outlook or Outlook Express and then archive from there, but that just seems so unnecessary... someone tell me there's a way to do it from Thunderbird!

well... a quick googling located this: http://leovilletownsquare.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=638700

which seems to support my suspicion that thunderbird would simply save in your 'user' folder (under documents and settings on c:, usually).

so long,

IIRC moz and tb uses the standard UNIX mailbox format, so they see no reason for adding an exportation mechanism. It's already in a standard format that other mail handlers should be able to use. Just copy the "Mail" or "ImapMail" directories from your moz or tb profile.

It didn't occur to me to google for other sites - the Thunderbird mail Help pages didn't say anything other than I quoted above. But I guess it makes sense with open source software that there would be sites other than the main one with info about it. This is the extent of my open source experience... But I'll check it out.

Thanks for the tips! If I can't make it work, I'll be back with an update...
