I've been keen on playing around with 3D-apps for some time now, but I do not really want to fork out any substantial amount of money just for "playing" right now. I've tried a few freeware apps but failed to make any sense out of them (ex. Blender.. makes my head spin and PovRay.. well I scratched that off my list after seeing screenshots. I'm no math guy ).

Now I saw that you get a full version of Amapi when buying the latest issue of Computer Arts (I believe), so I'm interested to know whether anyone has got any experience with that program and would like to share.

My plan is to use it for mostly architectural settings (buildings/rooms) and to do 3D-sketches/renderings of furniture and such. Probably no character modelling and maybe basic animation (fly-throughs and rotation of objects etc)

All tips/opinions welcome!

I've just read a bit about it on the net. Comes from the same people that makes Carrara.

But then again for 10$ it might be worth a try. Even if it's not that good I still get the magazine...

i've heard of it, but that's about it

i actually have the 3dtoolkit from dvGarage and its pretty sweet for the price, its a scaled down version of electric image with a ton of great video tutorials from alex lindsay and the crew at dvG. i've recently upgraded to lightwave and would sell my 3dtoolkit copy faily cheap (retail is $99 on their site), if you're interested let me know.
