My windows activation keeps bugging me to activate windows! Again, and again, and again, and I'm like stop it! But when I click on it, it comes up with this nice blue innocent looking window saying that windows is allready activated and continues on like I didn't do anything. It notifies me like 2 or 3 times a day.

It's been doing this since I upgraded my computer. What can I do to shut the thing up?

I have used this method before to change license keys on HP computers which used a leaked key from the factory which prohibited upgrading them to SP2. This should take care of your problem as well but please only use this method at your own risk.

1. Click Start > Run > and type in Regedit

*** Backup your registry now! ***
From within the Regedit screen, right click My Computer, choose Export, name the file whatever you choose, and click Save

2. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\wpaevents
3. In the right pane, right-click OOBETimer, and then click Modify
4. Change at least one digit of this value to deactivate Windows
5. Click OK and close regedit
6. Click Start > Run and type in: "%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a"
7. Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows, and then click Next
8. Click Change Product Key (at the bottom)
9. Enter your valid Product Key
10. Press Update and close the window.
11. If you are returned to the previous window, click Remind me later
12. Restart your computer
13. After the workstation restarts, click Start > Run
14. Type in: "%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a" without the quotes.
15. Make sure the dialog box says 'your copy of windows is already activated'

If you performed the above steps incorrectly, or used an invalid key, your system may not be able to boot. Use the F8 key to boot to the last known good configuration and retry with a valid key.

Good luck!

You might want to try XP Anti-spy...it is a nice little program, with lots of ways to deactivate things in WinXP. It might help.

Oh!

Ya know what? There might be some spyware on your PC. With The Messenger Service some industrious haxxors are duping people into paying for free updates... who knows what else they might be able to trick windows into displaying.

It may be a remnant of something...

And as a precautionary measure "Spybot-Search & Destroy" in tandem with "Ad-Aware" are the best frontline defenses against these nasty little scumware tricks that are usually missed by the AntiVirus software.
