Before the pills would be red until I checked on forum then all the pills would become yellow.
But now I'm seeing yellow pills all the time.
The only thing I changed was that I installed netspeeder.

I don't know what netspeeder is, but I'm guessing that involves caching pages for quicker loads, or somethign of that nature?

If that is the case, then of course you will always be laoding a cached version of the page, which will not have such information as which threads have been updated...

Try a hard refresh to clear your cache.

Well the netspeeder is an internet connection accerlator.
It changes the tcp/ip settings. Maybe it caches pages for quicker downloads but
I have no problem seeing new posts. It's just the pill indication of new posts that doesn't work.

Since 1 or 2 days, many pills remain red for me. I've just tuned a bit my cookie settings ( adding some domain name in FF's black list ), but still that of the Asylum are allowed.

I have it both ways, what I'm using is

winXP mozilla firefox 1.0PR -- I see red pills for new posts.
slack10 mozilla firefox 1.0PR -- I see no red pills, ever.

What keeps track of the time for the pills? A cookie? Because It saves my login for both windows and linux.

It seems to use a two cookies named lastVisit and thisVisit. I use FF 0.9 with the security patches of the 1.0PR ( so that in fact my FF identify itself as Firefox/0.10.1 ) and it also keeps my login settings but I wonder if they are not kept by the "Saved Form Information".

The only www.ozoneasylum.com cookie I have is named "grailozoneaslyumsettings" (I found this out using preferences->view cookies.

Any idea why I'm not getting those cookies?

I also have this one which after looking at its value is an URL encoded serialized PHP array including the login infos, lastVisit, thisVisit, inputSaveToClipboard and threadatonce infos..
Seeing this, it seems that the other cookies are not necessary to figure the color of the pills.

I checked on windows, I have 3 ozone cookies, lastVisit, thisVisit, grailozoneasylumsettings, while linux only has the 3rd cookie.

Maybe that was the intent, but the grail code never got changed to using the new cookies data?

I just installed firefox on linux, so that would explain it if lastvisit and thisvisit were from the old asylum, and the new cookie is supposed to store all the data.

Who codes the grail? Maybe this is a bug they don't know about.

AFAIK the main coder of the Grail is Tyberius Prime, and problems relative to the color of the pills have been noticed in the past ( see Grail todo list. ). It's said that WarMage is investigating the problem.

I've been tinkering with the cookies.
Apperantly it did not have the desired effect, but instead made a mess out of all of em.
Don't know why yet, and I currently have little time to investigate
(What I did was to pass the current $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] instead of just www.ozoneasylum.com
to php->setcookie(). That should have helped with people accessing via just 'ozoneasylum.com',
but apperantly didn't.).
I'll change it back once I'm back at home (probably Sunday evening, CET).

so long,

Thanks for the precisions.
Wouldn't it be easier to redirect every request made to ozoneasylum.com to www.ozoneasylum.com ? Will it have any undesirable side effect ?

Acessing the sit from ozoneasylum.com with no www fixes the problem for me. With this url I am only getting the single encoded cookie 'grailozoneasylum.'

ozoneasylum.com/recentchanges - no red pills
www.ozoneasylum.com/recentchanges - red pills

Would this affect wether or not I am remembered on this computer?

I keep clicking it but the Asylum refuses to remember me. So I have to actually type my user name in for every post. Thank You for keeping the contents of a post in the cache somewhere. Because a couple times I got that login error and when I pushed the back button my post was still there... Whew!

I don't know if this is related, but all posts since around noon on November 4 are marked as unread for me, despite how many times I refresh, ctrl+refresh, or visit any page. I can't seem to reset things no matter what I do. This is a contrast to before, when clicking any link reset everything on the asylum to think I had read it. =)

Do you need some help? I mean, is there any information that we could collect or any tests we could do that would help you out?

I wonder what happened, I've always had "remember me" working fine, but now on windows it forgot my username/password. Strange though, cause I do see red pills.

Another thing I noticed, I don't know if it was like this before or not, when I checked the cookie using "firefox's view cookie thing", the domain name was prepended with a period. ".www.ozoneasylum.com" Maybe that has something to do with it...

Anyway, I know you're busy, so don't worry about it too much

( edit: Pills in winXP client(had this pre-grail) has the 3 cookies, no red pills in linux(cookies are only post-grail), client only has the grail cookie, now neither OS's remember my password, and it always used to )

Is it possible to create the thisVisit and lastVisit cookies? It might be a quickfix if its possible.

Still not working for me...

Not a super big deal...

but just kinda funny, not funny ha ha, but funny wierd... kinda like when you put your slippers by the bed at nite and in the morning they are on the other side of the room and filled with an oily residue that smells sorta like brimstone...

[edit] oops..., well the pill thing is working a red one after this posting... I like red... but the board wont remember me... it's kinda creepy. Like going back to your high school reunion and no one knows who you are. Or going into work and everyone is different but they all know each other and everyone looks at you like you're an alien. Then one guy with a mustache who looks a little like a cross between donald sutherland and michael cain points at you and a high pitched scream comes out of his mouth. Then everyone turns and points at you and screams. The sound is like the sound of a thousand insane people being simultaneously disemboweled... that kind of creepy[/edit]

MY COOKIES!?

Ha! I knew it! You just want to steal my cookies! Bastard!

[EDIT] Oops... you mean Internet cookies, huh?[/EDIT]
[EDIT] cookies deleted[/EDIT]
[EDIT] woo hoo! IE remembered me! But..., it holds the page in cache when I go to edit it. UGH! I refresh, and refresh, but edits don't show up! But! Only on the EDIT PAGE. They show up in the post, but when I hit the edit button it shows no edits. Unless I use my FF browser![/EDIT]
Right now IE shows the original post only when I hit the edit button, but FF shows new edits on edit page.... I mean IE shows the edits posted but as soon as I hit the edit button in IE... it reverts back to the original post.
[EDIT] I have to close the IE browser and re-enter www.ozoneasylum.com in order for post edits to show up on the edit page...post page? ok, edit page? a little too cache-ilicious.[/EDIT]

Any of this make sense or do I really sound bonkers?

you make sense - IE doesn't.
I'm saying everything from 'don't cache' to 'invalidate every darn time you see this' to that browser.
It's just broken. Every other browser on the planet handles it right.
It occurs relativly seldom, apperantly not with all IEs etc... only fix I see is appending random parameters to the url.
And I'm not going to do that.

so long
