21 year old commits suicide on live webcam
Apparently websites exist that are dedicated to this. It's horrible. It's the fact that they were egging him on that I hate, obviously some don't seem to realise that this is real.

That's awful. Not all people have a firm grip on reality, none of the people involved there seemed to. I wonder how his chat 'buddies' feel after all that.

That's awful.

It's like the saying, "Stupidity shouldn't be illegal, just take the warning labels off of stuff and let the problem handle itself."

That has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard anyone do...
You have to feel pity for the family, though..

I dont think we should really be discussing this here... Its like you guys are making a mockery out of what he did and its really pissing me off. I viewed his site, signed his guestbook, and feel really sorry for everyone who knew him. From what I read, he seemed like one of the bright stars in this dim world.

Black Hat: What he did, and how the people on the IRC chat acted, is a mockery unto itself. I think it's sad and terrible (I was appalled as I read those logs), but their behaviour was below foolish, it was ridiculous.

Its also nearly two years ago.

I actually caught this story on the John Walsh show when flicking through cable and they got some of the people on who were egging him on and the lads parents, etc. It was all terribly sad as I don't think anyone chatting online took it seriously and then they tried to phone 911 but didn't know his address, etc., etc.

What thread are you reading??

Nobody here has mocked anything. And if they did - so what? Opinions are free to be expressed.

What the kid did was stupid, plain and simple. What the others did, while in some cases a little disturbing, is ultimately irellevant - he chose to do what he did. Not them.

Sad for the family, as it is anytime a death occurs, but the bottom line is still that the kid did something stupid of his own accord.

Why shouldn't we be discussing it?

Yeah, I remember reading about this when it happened also.

A slight correction though. In reading briefly through the log file of the chat, they did do a whois on his domain name, and while the phone number was wrong, the address was correct. He also gave them a description of the vehicles in his driveway. A simple call to 911 could have saved his life.

What the kid did was stupid, to an extent. But you also have to take into account the lack of control and ratioanal thinking that addiction to a drug or drugs can have on a person. But, in the end, one bad choice led to another, and his personal decisions ended up getting the best of him.

As far as this conversation being a mockery of the situation, I just don't see it. This is a mockery.

I don't remember reading anywhere that he had a drug addiction, ramasax. I could be wrong, however. As I did only skim the page.

But I think DL has the right idea. People are responsible for their own actions. And that's the bottom line. It's not the drugs fault, it's not the other people in the chat room's fault, it's his own. Those other elements may have played a role in it, but suicide is purely a subjective decision.

edit: 360 miligrams of methadone? 10mgs gets one person off. Wow, this kid really did have a problem.

You are right, I was making a supposition based on the fact that he had a large stash of many drugs coupled with claims by him that this type of abuse, to lesser extens obviously, was a regular occurance. If not an addiction then surely a problem. Then again, is there really a difference?

Some time ago, a joke was regularly used on some French personal websites... There was a link "click to see my webcam", and clicking it sent you to a fake webcam showing somebody hanged up... Needless to say it wasn't really funny.

Seeing such things happen for real is sad
