I thought this was pretty interesting... from here...

Video Games Help Kids Relax Before Surgery

Playing video games in the operating room seems to be more effective in helping children relax before surgery than tranquilizers or holding their mother's hand, according to a U.S. study.

The study found that letting children play video games for a few minutes eased their anxiety until the anesthesia put them to sleep.

"We find that the children are just so happy with the Game Boy that they actually do forget where they are," researcher Dr. Anu Patel, an anesthesiologist at University Hospital in Newark, N.J., told the Associated Press.

Video games could offer an alternative for the many parents who don't want their children to be given tranquilizers.

Patel studied 78 children, 4 to 12 years old. The findings will be presented Saturday at a medical conference.

I can agree with that, I can remember when I was little my dentist had a whole bunch of video games for the kids to play before they went in for there appointments and I didn't see any of the children crying or getting upset before they were called back.

Many video games have also been shown to stimulate brain activity, improve reflexes, and a variety of other positive things.

Sitting on a couch for 16 hours with 6 bags of potato chips and a case of soda is the reason video games have been given a bad name

Just 16 hours? Ha! I bet I have broken such record more than once. Okay, just twice, when I was on a Capcom vs SNK 2 marathon with a friend. Both of us actually got tired of playing it...until next week.
