So I get this new sound card... just a cheappy but I wanted a name brand so I go with Sound Blaster... cool right?

Nope, can barely hear anything, need powered speakers...
Back to Fry's...
Hmmm, cheap powered speakers... here we go, this will work.

Nope, no left speaker... UGH! Guess what? Yup, back to FRY's.
Hmmm, maybe a little bit better speakers and a different card. Philips? Huh? There pretty big, have a decent corporate presence. Let's try these out...

AURGH! Damn f@ÞKing Drivers!

Huh, windows sees the card, lets see if windows update has anything... ooh driver update!

DOH!

Wont install! Google it... C-media? Huh? Who are they? Ooh Taiwanese company. OK card recognized let's see if we can update drivers from philips... gggrrr terse email to philips... hmmm, replied with 800 #... OK I'll call. Maybe they'll know who the original chipset manufacturer is.

Oh My God! The punk at Philips Hung up on me!?
Call back, speak to 'supervisor'... get direct link emailed to me. Try again... Nope!

Let me see if this .tw company has pictures on their website. Yup! hey! There's my card! Let's try these...
Finally!

If anyone has had the misfortune of dealing with philips /us and their soundcards specifically their psc 604 you should go to http://www.cmedia.com.tw/ and download their cmi8738 drivers, 1/3rd the download and they work fine. I'll bet other Philips soundcard problems can be solved there as well.

He he he, I now have the 'concert hall' special effect ... it sounds cool!

But, how come I can't hear the ARGH.mid?

DOH! Now it's back to messing with my sound card, hmmm, unless I turned that option off in ie. Does everyone else hear the midi?

[Edit] I can hear midi's when I play them in windows media player but not in the page that you linked to?[/edit]

[Edit] Hmmm, it plays only a snippet when I refresh, is it suppose to loop?[/edit]

Merry Christmas anyhow
