Topic awaiting preservation: icon in url field

hey guys how do I create an icon displayed in the url window- similar to ebay's site? I circled in red.

Such a thing is called favicon, and only works under 'some circumstances' (some browsers only display it for bookmarked sites, that kind of thing).
Please note, even the Asylum got one ;-).
To learn more about how to make one, I refer you to How do I make an icon/favicon? (preferably using free software?) - it'd be great if that faq could be extended with some 'what is it, when does it work' information. Thank you.

Or to make it easy if you don't want to read the FAQ (which you should), Put this in your head:

<link rel="shortcut icon" type="image/x-icon" href="favicon.ico" />

It has to be 16 by 16, and like Tyberious said, it works different ways in different browsers.
