One of the things I've missed is MORE MORE MORE tutorials by the Doc! ;-)

I'm really interested in learning more PhotoShop. I'm really a beginner in many respects and Docs tutorials have been extremely helpful (as well as a few cool ones on gurusnetwork) in my learning. But, I'd really like to see more tutorials. Some topics I'm interested in learning:

1) How do you do those liquid like shapes and make them look 3D and cool?

2) More text effects. For example, the rounded cool looking text in "ASYLUM" here in these pages. Or make it look like gold 3D text. Various techniques that work for all text effects and then some special text effects.

3) I did some text on a curve and then renered the text so it's all one mask. How do I make that look cool?

4) some of the web navication objects Doc has on his sites are really cool. How about a tutorial on how to do those. For example http://www.ozones.com/gullwing/?

Some other things I'm interested in is Fonts. Where does Doc get a lot of these really nice fonts (the one for Ozone and Asylum for example). What special work does the Doc do to the fonts to make nice logos?

Thanks for the help.

Everythign you asked about is available in the existing tutorials.

He goes over those 'liquid' shapes, and how to make them 3D. the "text effect" on the asylum logo is easily acheived by using any of several methods presented in his tutorials.

There is a specific tutorial on the "gullwing" text.

As for #3 - that is an unanswerable question.

It's not time for more tutorials, it is time to take what you've learned and start applying it outside of the scope of the tutorials.

Nothing presented on HandsOn is there to show you one specific thing. It is all there to provide a variety of tools for you to use. It's up to you to adapt them to the larger world.

I must have missed the tutorial on the Gullwing effect, other than the sky-taffy tutorial that you wrote. But that doesn't really cover how to draw unique shapes like the gullwing for example. I don't know where the gullwing tutorial is, it's not on handson.nu that I've seen. The glass balls, I see but I don't see one on the liquid looking shapes. I see some of the shapes in one of the tutorials, but not how to make the shape itself. Maybe I missed something?

Yes, #3 is a little vague. Sorry about that. I have a basic idea in mind but can't get my head around some of the techniques to get the effect I want. In all honesty, I'm not sure I can describe what I want. I need to think about it some more.

What about the fonts? Any info on what fonts are used, where to get them (assuming they are free fonts)?

DuckWing: I'm not 100% sure of what you are after but this is where you follow Dl's advice to use the techniques to jump off and do your own thing.

The shape and (I believe) the main font are just drawn by the Doc - no big secret there. If you are looking for how to make the shape look for 3D then you probably need to jump over the GN where the Photoshop tutorials can provide further advice on this:

http://www.gurusnetwork.com/tutorials/two_d/photoshop/

And as luck would have it the ones you are looking for are by DL and at the top of the list:

http://www.gurusnetwork.com/tutorial/creating_shapes/

http://www.gurusnetwork.com/tutorial/adding_depth/

Although it looks like someone who shall remain nameless #cough#DL#cough# stills owes us the abstracts for those

Other tutorials, like DarkGarden's Weather Metal, etc., should provide further tips on creating and working with shapes.

Not only does he owe abstracts for those tutorials, but there is at least one more tutorial due in that series that I'm EAGERLY awaiting :-)

Thanks to both of you.

I am looking at the tutorials in more depth and trying to apply the concepts given by the Doc on the handson.nu site.

I don't think docs updated that site for a long while. That was kind of the point of the gurusnetwork site, to create a repository for most of these tutorials.

(If you didn't know gurusnetwork was started by the Doc and maintained by members of this board)

Yah. I hear the ol' Doc's been having his little... issues again, heh. Sometimes things just happen, and then they stop, and then they start again, funny.

Hah! Ah well, I'm still alive, though I went through a bunch of things which impacted my output, but hopefully those things are past now. So many new faces here, people I remember as total newbies are now old fart gurus, so cool!

I've been thinking about shapes, maybe I'll hack something together, hmmm...

Malin and I leased an old storefront in Leucadia CA on old highway 101, she'll be opening a store and I'll be doing my computer gig out of the back, should be a hoot! Last year was a total wash, we managed to move, and close our swedish business, and start (kinda) 2 other new businesses which... didn't.) Ah well, we made it through the year. And we're in California! And we have a store, and an office, and the beach is about 3 blocks away. I'll snap back, count on it.

Hmm? Where was I? Photoshop! Be right back.
