We don't have any *rules* about it, but we do tend to get annoyed by sigs which we feel are intrusive. Here are some general guidelines:

- Any width under 400 pixels or so is fine.
- Height should always be as small as you can make it without lowering the quality of the signature. The height of the sig you posted is too high - but if you cropped it down to just the area which actually has non-transparent pixels, it would be OK. My sig is about as tall as I feel comfortable going. The reason for this is that sigs shouldn't make it difficult to get from one post to the next; they should be unobtrusive.
- File size should be as small as possible, 100K in the worst case. Shoot for more like 10-20K.
- Graphically, make it pleasing but not distracting. Your current sig could benefit from colors which worked better against this background.
- When making a new sig, post it in the sig forum before using it so that if there's anything obnoxious about it people can stop you. =)

welcome to the Asylum INSANEdrive,
you might also want to have a close look at our ->faq.

Hi I'm new here (at the Ozone Asylum) what do I need to know? is a good starting point,
What's in a signature? and Really Bad Sigs are usually worth a read as well.

I though we had a 'sig rules' page as well... but can't find it right now... says something about our faq, I guess.

oh, and don't forget to read ->aboutUBB - we have some special codes around here that make linking and the like
easier.

so long,

Generally things that clash with the colour scheme fo this place, or ones that contain too much bright cool colour in a single space. Basic primaries -- Cyan, Magenta or Yellow -- are good examples of this. Anything that means your monitor is going to put out a lot more light, hence the 'eye burning' factor.
