Topic: Idea: Featured Website of the week. (Page 1 of 1)

so we have a contest for every other forum and a couple of other traditions. but nothing that focuses on personal websites.
now i am in the hospital atm and its f*king boring here so i have all kinds of crazy ideas:

how about we (that is Tyberius Prime ) build in a little box on the frontpage where we feature the personal website of an inmate.
maybe with a little 88x31 button. that would also give the frontpage a little more color.

the selection of the featured inmate webiste could be another little contest, a quiz, random pick, or just the predecessor chooses the successor.

opinions? (that is hails and congrats)

btw this could have some negative side effect: more kiddies might come and sign up just because of gettin there link button up there.
so we should introduce indeed some sort of selection system.....but letz see what the other inmates say =)

I like the idea although it would fit better with the Doc's idea of having more of a front page - the samples were wafting around a while back.

JKMabry: I think he did some sums and worked out the op would be cheaper than buying new shoes every month

so, im out of hospital and i have to say, im a bit disappointed on the number of feedback. please if it is such a bad idea, please say so.
so far two people say yes but are not totally convinced.
zero people say no so far.

i guess if one would like to do this, there is no way around TP?

It'd be pretty straight forward to implement, but honestly, I don't see it getting enough feedback to have enough sites to keep on changing them for even a year...

why not make it a "featured site of the month" thing then?
have inmates submit their sites or other inmates' sites and then have 3 other inmates decide on who's site gets chosen. The 3 judges would change every month as well. So one could possibly be the owner of the site previously chosen and then 2 people he/she chooses?

It would also be kinda cool if the 3 judges (wisemen/women) were to do a lil write up of each site they choose. What they like, don't like, suggested improvements in design and/or coding etc. I think something like that would be beneficial to the community as a whole.

Dunno, just a few thoughts to toss into the hat. Of course, this is coming from someone with a perpetual "under construction" page

Yes yes, similar to a concept of a featured sketchbook thread shared over at conceptart.org/forums

It would have to be a month thing, or the quality of the program would lose steam ridiculously fast. Unless, some how in our bizarre world the quality maintained along with a huge influx in population here at the asylum.

And its similar to the conceptart idea i used to debate over in what Lacuna mentioned in that the site would not only be a feature, but a criticism. Leaving the best candidates to be the ones who have the talent without the last bit of drive.

Or you could have 2 features. One for excellence and one for constructive critique.

While we do have quite talented folks here churning out sites, there's no site that couldn't use some improvement at some level. Of course, there's the odd one that perfect, but I think it's good to show that regardless of how perfect a site may seem, that it can, indeed, be improved upon.


I think it's at least worth a shot. If it goes tits up at some point down the road, then just do away with it.
