As far as I am aware, ImageReady is available only packaged with Photoshop.
You ask "Are there any alternatives to Imageready"? Well I think that depends on what it is you want to do.
What is it you want to do?

There are loads of free GIF animators, most of em just stick a load of gifs together. Before Imageready I used MS Gif Animator, and it was great, has all the gif features, layers to an extent too. But with an animator like this you'd want to have photoshop anyway .. try download.com and similar.

That would be circumstances.

I'm afraid you'll need to be a whole lot more specific about what exactly you want to do, and what exactly the methods and software you currently use are.

I draw up each and every movement of the animation.....and it useually turns out jumpy.... and what I mean by animation is like.. animation of my name ... or a flag (with one of the elbems from a game I play).... and as I said.. the use of .mov (a quicktime fromat) in my sigs..

I performed a google for free animation software as I'm sure you must have done. I have only used ImageReady and ULead Gif Animator so can not really comment on the links provided there.
FSD looked like a particularly useful site for what you seem to need.
If you use any of the software there to make animations it would be great if you could let us know what you think of them. Perhaps even show us what you've done.

Still very vague...

What software do you use?

What do you mean you "draw up each and every movement"? In what? What do you use to then animate it? The fact that it turns out jumpy is a totally seperate issue, as that would have to do with the manner in which you draw/compile the animation - even the best software doesn't haev a magic wand to fix anomalies in the artwork, and there is often no good way around setting up each frame yourself. The 'tween' functions can be helpful at times, but usually do not result in very good animation.

Do a search in the PS sections and the FAQ for animation...Mahjqa has written some fantasticly helpful min-tutorials on the subject.

quicktime movies? Do you mean taking a quicktime movie and turning it onto a .gif?

So are you lloknig for software that automatically convert?

The more specific you can be, the better your chances of getting a helpful answer...

^^ I think he's talking about tweening (inbe-tween). If thats the case, it wont smooth your animation it will make it blurry at best, tweens are used for drawing guides rather than actual frames.

Post an example, if its a case of movement in your animations being jumpy you probably need to learn a few tehniques rather than replace your software bundle. I use Imageready, but for what I've used it for, I'd be just as happy with the old animator I mentioned above, Imageready simply makes to easier to do and far far easier to modify afterwards. Oh and of course the Photoshopesque interface is another of its advantages.

Heres a link to MS GIF Animator. Its a piece of shit but it gets it done once you've sorted out the images first.

And The google search I used to find this

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&q=Adobe+Imageready

When ImageReady first came out Adobe sold it separately from PhotoShop, but very few people were buying it because there were lots of other programs available to compile animated gifs and people had not seen the advantages provide to them by getting ImageReady which would integrate with PhotoShop.

If you can get a gif animation program for $20.00 to $50.00 why buy ImageReady at $150.00 even if id does integrate with PhotoShop better than your current gif animator?

So Adobe decided increase the price of PhotoShop about $50.00 and bundle ImageReady with PhotoShop. It costs Adobe a lot less money to sell both programs in one package than to sell each in its own package.

If ImageReady hadn't been bundled with PhotoShop, Adobe would probably have pulled it off the market by now because it doesn't sell well on its own.

Ulead GIF Animator can probably do that. I had a trial version of it a number of years ago and I seem to remember that it could read Quicktime files. The web site says that it can create Quicktime files so I would get it can read them as well.

It's a nice program. It seems to be able to do several of the things you were asking about in reference to ImageReady. It might be a good stand-alone substitute.

You might also look at PaintShop Pro. It has always had the ability to convert between a huge number of formats and it has a GIF animator program that comes with it. You can also get the GIF animator program stand-alone if you don't want the full PaintShop.
