I don't think there are any reliable sources for civilian casualties yet. And I am beginning to doubt that there ever will be, as sad as that sounds.

From what one reads these days, whever the count the dissident Iraqui's and 'insurgents' appear to have the lead in Iaraqui body counts.

Not to suggest it is a contest, just that the locals are intentionally killing a lot more innocents than the US forces are accidentaly.

Another thing that worries me is the PTSD that is already starting to take its toll. I believe a couple of vets (from Afghanistan and Iraq) have killed their loved ones and there are already signs emerging of a much wider lower level problem:

This is an old story in North America ( I dunno what happend to European Troops), goes back at least as far as the second world war.

Of course PTSD was unknown as such then, but the symptoms were the same.

In Canada, while we had the Veterans Affairs Department, they screwed at least as many soliders in need as they helped and are still doing it to this day. It was only in recent years Korean Vets here got recognition for their contribution and some help, same for the merchant marine, many of whom are still awaiting assistance. The attitude of our government seems to be 'stall until they die'.

It is a sad and sorry way to treat men and women who risk everything in the name of their country in it's time of need, for their country to ignore them in their time of need.

Amen.

Here's to those who don't come back alive, or in one piece.

And more on the rocky grounds for war:

Jim McGovern speaks up about Iraq - What I Didn't See in Iraq

That's a pretty sobering look from what Congress is seeing in Iraq.

Do you know who owns Iraq, specifically their monetary system, WS? Any info you have there would be appreciated. I have been digging around and found numerous references to the UAE, IFC, and even the Federal Reserve Bank playing a part as creditors, but have yet to find any actual clarity with statistial informaion, if it even exists.

Leads me to ask the question: Will Iraq ever be able to pay back its debt? I mean, they have trillions worth of black stuff under their sandy landscape, but it is going to take decades to pay off a couple hundred billion in debt? Was one of the reasons for going to war to create another debt based economy in which the people ultimely suffer?

I was thinking about the reasons for going to war other than the reasons which I believed for so long. Freedom and the WoT. Now oil is certainly a factor, but what else? The defense industry had a large stake there as well, lots of money being made. Also read a book by Globalist Thomas Barnett, Pentagon's New Map, referring to the gap and all that and how we are basically taking it over. He portrays it in a good light, which I do not agree with, but it does reveal the strategy we seem to be following. Even though I am anti-globalist, it was a very good book. Revisiting PNAC was also quite enlightening.

There is something I am missing though and I have yet to pin it down. Bottom line is of course money, but what am I missing? I cannot make out the big picture which right now I tend to believe involves the global takeover of the world piece by piece. The western world is already enthralled unknowingly to the banks IMO, so now we are going after the gap countries. As you can see I have a lot of thoughts flying around in my head, but am not able to constuct it, to connect the dots.
