I was looking at a concept for a front page, when someone suggested I stick in moving links. Lame yes, but I fiddled just to see what wold work, randomize it and stuff.

I came up with this: http://wraypa1.demon.co.uk

Works happily for me and a few friends in both IE and firefox. But, for one friend it just refused to work in IE. The links are stuck in the top-left before being shifted - but that shifting never began. Any ideas? I'm going to emove this and change it to HTML/CSS only, but I was just wondering....

I'm using IE 6.0 (at work) and the links "stick" to the far lefthand corner for me, as well.

Huh, weird....I'm using IE6 and it's working fine for me, as I said....

Oh well, if no-one really knows why, it's no big deal. It's a shamefull script anyway

I see nothing wrong in IE. It's works exactly like in FireFox.

I'm using w2k SP4 and IE 6.0.2800.1106 SP1; Q833989; Q823353;

And it worked correctly in Opera 8 beta2 too. The elements seemed to stay a bit longer in the top left corner, but nothing to worry about.

[edit] For accessibility and standard compliance sake I'd rather put the links in a plain UL. That way, it'd work with JavaScript disabled, and it'd be easier to maintain the links. [/edit]

Oh, I love web programming :\

Well, I better make most of my site html/CSS only, then have a link to my JS pages with a big warning sign

Hehe, sorry, I've been updating it in the past few mins - it's entirely possible I screwed it. ALso, I put up a 'new' front page - try http://wraypa1.demon.co.uk/old_index.html for the old one that had issues

I'm surprised it works in Firefox at all, given that you're not specifying "px" for the top and left properties when setting them.

Do this, and maybe add a valid DOCTYPE, and I see no reason why it won't work in most browsers.

Incidentally, the links stay in the top left for me when my IE window is below a certain size. At fullscreen they fly perfectly, so I can only assume this is something to do with the width / height detection routines. Again, these will be affected by a DOCTYPE, too.

Ah yes, perhaps a divison by zero or something somwhere along the line. The path accounted for resolution and everything, but I guess under a certain size this would happen. I knew firefox would work from using this method in the past. But all round it's not a great script, so I just made it static as it is now, and moved onto my silly platformer thing

The old index page doesn't work for me in IE6 unless you have the page in fullscreen when loading it..
