Alright I was going to post this in a linux thread and thought I'd throw it out here for everyone.

So you're used to photoshop but want to try using the Gimp (free, powerful image editor) instead? There's now a hack called Gimpshop which makes the Gimp act like Photoshop.

Originally for the Mac

but ported to linux

And a Windows port

That's great, I may give Gimp another run with this, it just proved too confusing for me before.

Downloading now...

Hopefully, it will ease my transition to OSS, now that Adobe owns Macromedia...

edit: ok, so it's pretty awesome. Not perfect, of course (not everything from Photoshop is present, and a lot is in GIMP but not Photoshop), but much easier to use, IMHO. I suggest checking it out if you didn't like GIMP normally.

It is still not PS, not by a long shot. I tried this right after it came out and I wasn't very impressed.

I think this is because I dug deep down into PS and everything to me now is trying to map a procedure from PS to theGimp. My productivity when using theGimp is less than 1/2 of what I could do in PS. It didn't improve at all with GimpShop, if anything it adds another learning curve.

Given this is still a very early beta, I am going to have to give this at least another 6 months to a year to mature. I am sure that by that time it will be an amazing piece of software.

It's just nice to be able to have it all as one item in the taskbar. The GIMP is fine by me other than that slight annoyance.

it's a debian install on that page. Since I run slackware I don't think there is a way to install from this is there?
