What's the best software for creating animation for site's and sigs? I use Photoshop and ImageReady but you don't have much freedom in them by that I mean I find it kind of hard to make detailed animations in them much like the one's Mahjqa makes.

Mahjqa: What do you use for you sigs?

Imagination and a heck of a lot of skill. That is, it's not the software that make Mahjqa's sigs, it's Mahqja himself.

I use ImageReady myself (although I haven't messed around with it for a while) and have no complaints. Where exactly does it restrict your freedom, and what are you looking for it to do? Maybe that might elicit some more helpful responses in terms of other software options.

I use Photoshop and Imageready. I'm married to Photoshop. I'd marry IR too if polygamy wasn't an issue.

If you find it hard to make animatings using IR, I'd recommend doing some tutorials first. Linkage:

matrix effect

decay

we don't need no water

What is it exactly you're having difficulties with? Maybe I can help.

So far as the universe of laws is concerned, polygamy only relates to people. Go ahead and marry as many programs as you want. No one'll stop you.

Promise.

Depends where you are....

In French, software is consider masculine (according to babelfish)....

So you might have to travel in order to marry PS. Or get a sex change.

Hmmmm... which makes me wonder. If you have a sex change, are you legally allowed to marry in places that ban such things?

Well I kind of find it hard to do detailed work in ImageReady, that and I guess my PC's all crappy! Also I could never get a hand of transparency which I think is my biggest problem. I've tried a lot of tutorials especially the ones made by DocOz but I still can't get a hang of it!

I know that!! But STILL!! There's gotta be some sort of software out there that can make all this sound a little more easy to my thick head! Say how's that animation software you get with Jasc's Paint Shop Pro? I forget the name but I have a copy of it some where in my drawer.

So, in other words, it's not that ImageReady doesn't give you enough creative freedom, it's that you can't wrap your head around it? You are looking for software that is easy to use, then? That's not the same thing as the "best" software, you know.

But, as mahqja suggested, why don't you tell us what you are having problems with? The chances of me being able to help are fifty-fifty at best, but I'm sure mahjqa will be able to cover all the bases.

I guess so

You know I can't actually put my problem into words! In fact I don't know if I even have a problem! Maybe I'm just stubborn! I've tried understanding IR... atleast I think! Maybe I should see some tutorials or a book on the topic... you guys got any suggestions?

Are you working on a particular animation right now? If not, the next time you want to do something and you run into a problem, post it in this forum.

The tutorials mahjqa linked to above are good tutorials, and you could probably find others using Google. The IR help might also come in handy. As for book, I generally don't buy computer books (there are plenty of resources on the net, and computer books have a tendency of becoming dated relatively quickly), so I can't help you there.

And you might also want to avoid talking about getting pirated copies of things here...

Mahjqa: How do you get something to change size in an animation in IR, I try changing the size of something in a layer in one frame and the change happens in them all! Isn't there anyway of just meddling around with a single frame like in Flash or LiveMotion? And one more thing, how do you mimic 3D animation in IR? Know of a tutorial that can get me started??

IR doesn't allow you to change the size of a single layer between frames. What you're going to have to do is to make multiple copies of the layer you want to resize, and transform each layer for each frame. As for 3D animation... you're better off using a 3D program for that. Of course, afterwards you can still edit the animation in IR for size and such, which is recommended.

I'm not really into 3D so I'd recommend checking out the 3D forums on the 'sylum.. and as for scaling; it's possible in the way I suggested it (scaling layer by layer), and personally I prefer this method. But that's just me.

Slime and myself made a couple of sigs using POV-Ray. but you technically you should be able to use any 3d program you like. just make sure you are rendering out to a format that supports alpha channels (png) which you can then convert to a gif animation using imageready.

example 3d sig:
