Topic awaiting preservation: NBC special on Miracles last nite & Revelations series

Did anyone have a chance to see these and if you did what are your thoughts?

It seems primetime channels maybe airing more religious segments or serials because of a keen interest in religious faith these days.

I haven't seen it but it looks interesting. What were they about, in a few points?

I don't know if Revelations was meant to be a proposed end-times senario, if so, there are many problems (starting with the title...). I found the series very exciting, but the conclusion was horrible as far as shows go. It just ends, mid-thought. Oh, well.

Haven't seen Miracles, though. What was that about?

Just one more way that Hollywood and surrounding studios have found to make money off of people's faith.

The series Revelations has less to do with the Christian end-of-days scenario than it does with filling an executive's wallet.

I have puzzled out the 'end-times' it is when all the religious commit simultaneous suicide and go to their "reward", leaving we realists in peace at last.

Bigotry and extremism are equally damaging whichever side of the fence you sit Ehtheist. Many of those who claim they are not religious are often guilty of exactly the same closed-minded superiority complex as many of those who believe in a god. Secular fundamentalism is totalitarian in nature and is as damaging as any other religious fundamentalism so get off the high horse.

This is what I have observed of you:

1. Your truth is the only truth and it must not be questioned.
2. To question your truth is tantamount to heresy.
3. You are aggressive and fanatical in your prosyletising.
4. You indulge in outrageous sterotypes to wage your ideological warfare.
5. You attack and denounce the beliefs/morals/values of all non-believers

Sound familiar?

Careful you should be that you do not become that which you despise.

The term "closed-minded superiority complex" is a term very often used by non-religious on this site. However, it has nothing to do with being a superior religion. Jesus taught against those "Pharisees" that taught they were superior because they knew or memorized the letter of the law. I guess some could say that about some evangelics today that are overly passionate about relating memorized bible scriptures. The Jewish scribes were often guilty of setting themselves apart as the better of the sect. as being closer to God. Jesus scolded them for this.

To believe in the Christian way is to be submissive in all ways to God. Treat everyone as your brother, sister, mother, father. This is the way of Christ. To love one another thur Christ we are fulling the way set out for us. To preach the good news that Christ is comming to each and everyone of us is often mispresented as "because I believe and you don't your going to hell" or "you need to be saved. I am. I was saved in 1996 on a Tuesday". Or "accept Christ as your personal savior and you will go straight to heaven and don't worry about what you have done because Jesus already died for that horrible sin you committed.." I can see why those who are searching or trying to explore Christianity might not see it as a sect they would want to belong to. The other day I was speaking of a friend who was dying and this person said " Is she or has she been saved? This for me is not the way of the Lord. NO person living on this earth knows their destiny. This portrays self-righteousness. Or, might be seen as being superior in nature to a non-believer. Yes, Christ opened up the gates of heaven by his death and resurrection, but that doesn't mean we will all enter, just because we say we believe.

For us to be open-minded to other religious sect in the way of worship, is a very serious matter. We cannot veer from the truth once it has revealed itself to us. So for us to explore possible religious faiths other than Christianity, would mean death to our souls. Christ is the only way of salvation for us. Yes, we will be rewarded. I want that reward. Its what we live for: eternal life with the God Almighty. Because we try to extend the love of Christ, we would want that for all peoples.
