First the issue. There have been some recent questions about the character encodings.

TP, is this an issue? I am just wondering if not handling the encoding is the expected behavior. I really don't know how I would handle this so I am just looking for a little clarity on what your thoughts are on that front.

Also would it be possible to add to the list of UBB tabs? I wanted to do some superscript in a post and found the functionality lacking. If it is something you are willing to think on allowing I will pull down the most recent codebase and create a patch.

I just got done with my classes and have 12 weeks off from school so I might be able to pull up some time to do some work.

Thanks,

heya,

encoding: What encoding issues? Last time I checked this place reported it's encoding as ISO-8859-1 - which should be fine for our usual western hemisphere. I might have missed those threads (I was out of town for a couple of days, and generally don't manage to read everything I want nowadays...), so please provide some reference.

I'll read up on sup and see if we can implement it nicely enough... added to the ->grailtodo list

This thread had an issue with HTML special characters, I manually replaced them.

Looks like F1 had an issue here, not sure exactly what his issue was.

In the vein of the tag, the <ins> and <del> tags could be usefull when editing/correcting a post.

I had wanted to use ü in my post, but it don't like my special characters. I could have tried ü as well, but I figured that if one didn't work the other wouldn't either. I suppose I'll find out for sure when I press submit.

you need to type the actual character, not html enities, that's what's specifiying an encoding is all about.

ü vs ü - the later get's transferd to & amp;uuml; so that we may talk about it.

Well, that's kind of silly, but nice to know.

über keen.

F1_edit: I should know by now, not to post so damn early in the morning.
Is there a way that both the html character and the actual typed character could be used? Or is that a royal-pain-in-the-ass change to make?

I see no way to sensibly distinguish what the user wants, which is the major hurdle for such a scheme.

Ok, no problem. Now that I know what to use, I'll use that.

Well, as Poi said, what about altering the post edit function to be able to show changes with <ins> and <del>? This would possibly be done if the user wishes to see, say, the last revisions someone made to a post or somesuch. This requires extra database crunchiness, but Dreamhost aren't placing a limit on those kind of things these days
