I've never really had the inkling to learn Ruby. But then I found Why's poignant Guide To Ruby

That's perhaps the greatest language-oriented read of all time.

I really the first bit of that book a while back, it is a good introduction for someone really new to such languages. If you don't like reading boring tech manuals this is for you.
