Ok, I'm trying to help some friends of mine and they have this low quality image one of them drew and tried to paint at http://www.visualsunstudios.com/kaos/HybridChild/Hybridchildsun1.gif

I tried to make it better, but I'm not that great and its just hard.. I was wondering if anyone here felt like seeing what they could do to make it look smoother and better. Thanks

In this case, I think the best advice I can give is; The Pen Tool is Your Friend.

Trace over the parts of the image with the pen tool, then stroke or selction paths, then color.

yeah, I tried that but the flames are really really close together. If I could draw, I would redraw the flames and have them spaced out a bit more. I think they use MS Paint to make the original image LOL

Any way you look at it, the pen tool is your friend here.

You need to clarify what you are asking for here though.

Are you looking at advice on how to make a higher quality file out of this image? Or advice on how to make the design itself better? Or for someone to do one of the above things for you? Or........?

If they're really close together, then zoom in so they're not. Simple problem, simple answer

I am assuming that he means in an aesthetic sense - as looking at the graphic shows they are well more than far enough apart to easily trace...

I agree pen tool but do it in Illustrator.
Draw one flame they are all pretty much the same shape.
Rotate it copying the original around a central point.
Duplicate the entire thing leave one black for shadow
Use other as a clippping mask around the flames image.
use pathfinder to make the entire fames one object
place 1 layer above flames image then with it and flames selected
go to edit-clipping path-make.
Draw one circle over the middle of that with your Orange/yellow gradient.
Clone that one on top of itself. Command - C then Command - F.
Scale teh new circle slightly smaller and make black.
Make a small circle about teh size of the c Cutout of the black and place it in the right location.
Select The black circle and the new small circle and use pathfinder to subtract the smaller section from the big circle.
use pen tool and trace out the H then select it and the Black cirecle and repeat subtracting the H.
Trace out the words with pen tool (Unless you know and have the Typeface).
Color and words and layer appropriatley
