Hi all,

Not sure if I have much of a point, but I read with some interest the thread from partycheck and the way I understood it, a graduate with some issues about finding work (the old you cant get a job without experience and you have to have had a job to have experience conunrum/coupled with the I expect a 50K job for my first outing woooha!/coupled with the terror of - can i do it? Can I? What little olde me???)

BUT anyways, it got me thinking,.

What is your dream job? V. What is your actual job!?

This I guess could be taken light heartidly or perhaps you could be truthful!

Okay, what am I trying to say? - So my job isn't my dream job - scheeesh - who's is, but I'm not sure where (if indeed like this thread, anywhere!) I'm going...?

its late - I'm tired - off to bed -

nighty night

My dream job? Honestly, pretty much what I'm doing right now, except with more authority and less of the petty little crap that goes on. Either that or novelist, but it's not like I couldn't do both at the same time.

My current job is translator, but I am also studying for my Ph.D. and hope to get a professorship at a nice university somewhere.

My dream has always been to write, and about a decade ago I added translation to my wish list. For me, dreams are not some abstract thing that I put up on a shelf and take down every now and then to remind myself how much life sucks. They are things to be pursued and achieved. Not to say that life still doesn't suck from time to time--that's the reality of human existence--but I also don't think anything should stop us from realizing our dreams. If I didn't believe that I was on the path to achieving my dreams, well, I'd probably have a hard time living with myself. It's hard enough sometimes as it is.

So I guess this would be a "truthful" response as opposed to a "light-hearted" response, although I don't think the two are necessarily mutually exclusive.

Actual job:

I sort of work as an Intercative Designer for a HR consulting company (haven't got a real title). I do all their graphic stuff, websites, flash anims, sometimes just the layout of Word documents or PowerPoint presentations.
I enjoy it because I always have various things on, but sometimes I haven't got much to do.
In overall like this position, so I think I'm lucky.

Dream job:

My dream job would be to work on projects for the BBC or get involved in projects for Liverpool 08.
And it would also be fast paced and gratifying and varied. I would also love to have to work outside now and then.

My dream job would be to do what I do right now, but actually get paid for it.

What I do right now is custom design and development of graphics, user interface, database, and software for an experimental digital device (<-- deliberately obscure there). If the device becomes successful I should be paid for the work I've been doing. If we don't get an infusion of money on the project soon, I'll be working at Wal-Mart as a bag-boy.

Oh and I do a little bit of Web design on the side.

Actual Job:

Pretty much the same as kimson. I work for a real estate company and also handle a lot of phone calls for the investment property side of our business in addition to graphics design, database, web design, app development, advertising, and teaching everyone exactly how the printer/copier/scanner/fax works.

Dream Job:
Lottery winner (hey, its a dream)
Or pretty much my current job with fewer hours.

Dream Job
Professional Traveler

Actual Job
Network Connectivity Specialist
I setup multi-function machines for copying, printing, faxing, scanning over a network and scanning to email.

I used to work for a company that built guitar amplifiers and handled their computer problems, graphics for ads, and website stuff. That was a real cool gig because I got to pretty much makeup what I did on a daily basis, got to talk to lots of professional musicaians (Trail of Dead, Billy Gibbons, Eric Johnson, etc...)
It didn't pay that great but a good atmosphere. Now, I get a company car and it's still a really cool job.

I'm a retired classical guitarist / musicologist. If retired is the right word, I just kind of quit doing it. Spent a bunch of money on a degree that I don't use anymore Tought for a while, that sucked so I kind of just quit.

Actual Jobber

My *first* real job. (I knew some one, and no, I dont make 50K a year. I cant even imagine making that.) I do video production/animation and I actually like it alot.

Dream Jobber

I have atleast 2 years to go to get a bachelors degree, so I think it would be fun to quit my jobber and just go to school.

I dunno about dream job though. Maybe getting paid alot to test out different sleep aid meds? That way i could sleep on the job and not tick off the boss. heh.

Right now I'm a Tech Project Manager (basically a project manager that's really close with the coders and doesn't need to care much about clients, finances and such) running PHP/MySQL based webprojects.
This is like being a senior coder that get's to see & learn from every specialist on the project, while having maximum influence on how and in what way the project should be realized.

Dream job?
Well, something similar but more into pure R&D but what I have is pretty close
