Topic awaiting preservation: wireless kvm switches? (Page 1 of 1)

I've got computers piling over the years and the cables, oh the cables.

I always knew you could get kvm (keyboard/video/monitor) switches to control them but I had a passing thought today about wireless monitors which led to thoughts of wireless kvm switches! Wahoo! Sounds great. There's even some reading to be done via Google but I wanted to drop in and get personal opinions on this technology if anyone's ever used it...

I have no idea which product I'd choose over the next, doesn't seem like the product has taken the market by storm. I'd be a little suprised to find anyone here that's got expereince with such a thing actually, but it's worth a shot!

WIRELESS = NEVERMIND - looks like everything Googled leads back to one company that is extremely proud of their product! http://www.avocent.com/web/en.nsf/Content/AutoView-Wireless that's beyond the realm of affordable for the home I'd say

Anyone have dirt on the cheaper end of the cat5/6 kvm stuff?

Ohhh... there was something I saw a while back, a program which allows you to do this without having to buy a KVM switch... but I can't seem to find the thread it was in, nor can I remember what it was called. I know it was on sourceforge, though.

I use VNC to remotely access my Linux. Skaarjj, I don't know if that was what you were talking about.

Though I'm seriously thinking on getting a KVM switch bacause I have to plug my keyboard in my Linux box and press a key every time I boot to continue the boot process. Plus I can't access root with VNC. So VNC has it's limits.

I have used osx2x for a while, as a software switch between my Powerbook and linux boxes. You can use it to control a Windows box too, if you run it through VNC instead of XWindows. But it does require a Mac....

Is it Synergy(1) by chance? I've been using it for a while and it works pretty well for the most part. I *really* like the ability to copy/paste (text only) from Windows to Linux
