Hi all!
I was just wondering if any of you had an idea how I could find some band or musicians to play some music with... I haven't got a clue how to start and I'm willing to find some serious mates (not to say desperate ) and give it a a go... I used to play in a band and miss it bad
Do you know if there's anyway I can get in touch with them people around Berkshire or Surrey?
Any help, advice or personal experience would be very much appreciated!

Cheers

Well the first thing to do is to look in your local music shops, there's often a place where musicians post notices on boards looking for other band members, then the next place to look is in your local papers, this includes things like the Friday Ad, and a local version on Loot (I assume you by Berkshire and Surrey you're in the UK).

You could also try posting a few of your own adds of course, and depending on what you local independant music stores are like they may have adverts up too.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Al.

Oh yes, cheers, I cannot believe I hadn't thought of local music shops... I'm in the UK indeed. Thanks very much for these ideas Blaise.

I am guessing the "Friday Ad" is a newspaper type of thing? In the states we have lots of independant papers. Local news, satire, that kind of thing. Kind of a college newspaper just a little better done I guess. In those are always ads for people looking for various musicians.

Also here, the colleges are a great place to find musicians. Check out the music schools of colleges. If you need a guitarist, I bet you can find one there. Those guys are a dime a dozen around here

Here in Gainesville there is a paper circulated all over and around the University of Florida for music-lovers and trendy people, etc. Lots of people put ads in it looking for other people to start music groups with.

The best, though, I'd image, is to just grab some of your good friends and put a guitar (or whatever) in their hands. You really don't need to be a virtuoso to make great music.

I know... I'm one of them! And a singer. And I can play a bit of drums and the piano. But I don't want to be on my own

Well, this is the point... As I've spent all my time in the UK so far working full time during the day, and as an au pair at nights and in the weekends, so much for the bunch of good mates... I've met people of course, but nobody I can think of to start a band. Just got a new flat and thought this would be the best way to 1) meet some new people 2) carry on with my passion...
A bit sad, isn't it

Never mind, thank you for your advice, I'll give it a go!
