It's always fun to laugh about these kinds of gaffs. I admit Dubya makes quite a lot of them.

Perhaps not, but if I was American, I would certainly much prefer a literate president who knows what he is talking about - Bush seems not to have a clue about what is going on; (young) people are reading and listening to him, for God's sake... His English is appalling. On top of which he just makes me laugh, I cannot take him seriously whatsoever.
It is also just another proof that he would never had made it without his relatives.

And I am at a loss as to what "good leader" and "George W. Bush" have to do with one another....

I would very much prefer to have an eloquent, intelligent and charismatic president. We had one of those in President Clinton. He is without question a man of high intelligence and tremendous charisma. In fact, whenever I see him or think about him now I smile simply because he is just that likable. Unfortunately, many of his policies were flawed and were harmful to the country. I suffered through each of those 8 years!

When I consider who I want to run this country, I first and foremost look to the policies a candidate will fight for. I don't even look to personal morality as much as public policy positions. I would much prefer to have a president who was personally immoral but implemented good public policy over a saint who wouldn't.

Considering your political views, I can see why you would feel he is the "biggest farce", but I don't see how you can objectively say he is a man of less than moderate intelligence.

I wasn't saying that Dubya was a "good leader". I was speaking in general terms in that sentence. I would rate his personal leadership qualities as moderate and give him a C-. I can call him an "ok" leader at this point. Let's face it, Dubya is no Ronald Reagan; he was a great leader.

We are talking about the president of the United States here. A C- leader is a farce. And that opinion, which obviously it is, has very little to do with my political views. The man is a bufoon, plain and simple.

DL, I think he likely speaks his own language fairly well...it is English he has problems with. ROTFLMFAO

The C- is for his leadership qualities. I would give him a B on intelligence.

I have no quarrel in having high expectations for our leaders. I also respect your opinions and you're quite entitled to your opinion about this president.

I am looking forward to the next election. I think we are very likely faced with a presidential sequence of Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton. There are very few republicans that I can currently see that could succesfully oppose her.

Bugs: what about McCain running republican in 2008? I think he stands a chance against Clinton; as much as Kerry had against Bush in 2004.

However back on topic: I would have to rate literacy and oratorical ability higher on my list of attributes for a successful president than intelligence. A president surrounds themselves with advisors who are supposedly more knowledgeable than himself. Any wise and intelligent person knows where to look for information. One of the president's primary jobs is shaping policy ideologically and presenting policy eloquently. They serve as a figurehead for the nation.

Yes.

DL gave GW a B on intelligence. I wouldn't. And the site shows that much information that is out there, is erroneous information. So on this issue, I don't think there is much definitive proof, wither way, that GW deserves a B. Yet I think GW was a C student since his college years, and was never an over-achiever.

Even if he can be considered intelligent, then we must remove "intelligence" from the "Presidential Requisite".

Because Bush's popularity is low right now because of the oil prices and Iraq. So there would be a natural appeal to the alternative party. Also, I don't think conservatives would rally behind McCain in sufficient numbers so getting out to vote would be a problem. I also think Hillary would be a HUGE favorite on the Democrat side (recent poll had her getting 46% of the Democrat vote for candidate). I think she would get a much bigger share of the woman vote than a male candidate and well over the 90% of the black vote required to elect any Democrat in a national election. That's my rough run down as to why I think that.

No matter what GW has to say, the illegal imprisonment of PADILLA, in Guantanamo, should not be a firestorm, for those who hate the actions of the US government.
