I'll be working with these guys doing level design for this.

If anyone's in the Encino, CA area and has a car, apartment, random furniture, or just some advice about the area, please let me know!

Nice.

Are you going to be a texture artist, modeler, scripter, or a bit of everything?

Scripter, primarily. Maybe a little design (in terms of level layout and what happens) and editing (brushwork) too.

I start on the 7th (move on the 3rd or so). How? Well, I applied for a programming job, did well enough on their programming test to get an interview, and then didn't get the job. They suggested the level scripting job to me, so I made a sample map which got me an interview, where they said they wanted to see a little more so I made *another* sample map, which got me the job. All in all about two months of work. Whew!

I think the hardest part was just getting them to notice me (a college graduate with no industry experience) in the first place.

Oh, thanks to mas for testing my second sample map. =)

Slime: No, not on the browser. I'll do JavaScript + some other languages and a bit of graphism for the Web Applications department.
For a first experience, you've found a hell of a place/company. It gonna push you way further in the industry. Congrats.

Slime

Congrats man!!

You've had a passion for this stuff for a long time and it's really great to see all your hard work has paid off. You've always been an outstanding, well respected member of this community because of the way you conduct yourself and your willingness to help others and I'm sure it will be more of the same for you with your new peers at work. I hope this job gets you quickly to the place you want to be.

Thanks for everything and good luck. =)

I suppose I can! There were two levels, as I said, and you need Call of Duty (English version) to run them:

http://www.slimeland.com/misc/haggertydawnville.pk3
http://www.slimeland.com/misc/haggertydawnville2.pk3

Put them in your Call of Duty/Main folder (only do this with one at a time, I'm not sure if they work properly when together). Go into the game and enable the console in the options menu, then bring up the console with '~'.

For the first level, type "/map mydawnville"
For the second level, type "/map haggertydawnville2"

Enjoy =)

On October 12, 2002 I said: "Slime You possess excellent technical skills and I would not be surprised to be reading very good things about you in the news one day very soon."

Well, I'm not reading this in the news but I fully expect that will still happen

Now that you're out this way, maybe we'll get to meet.
