Well I don't know how much credence I'm prepared to put into that story. Terribly vague don't you think?

No names... no locations... no outraged comments from parents. And just how seriously can you take the source. The country's not terribly well known for 'freedoms' of any description...let alone the press.

It does seem to be kosher:

There have been a couple of deaths in Korea from people spending too long gaming but I think the Inquirer article pins it down - the story is being so heavily promoted so the Chinese government can further clamp down on online access.

Yep... pretty much my thinking Emps when I read that. While they thoroughly embrace capitolism thru the backdoor of Hong Kong 'information' largely remains the domain of the elite.

After playing a non-stop 6 hour 2 player network generals match this doesnt seem so surprising. I haven't played WoW but in generals there is no way of pausing I'd imagine its the same in WoW, it means going for snacks or the toilet have to be planned to some extent if your that eager to win. At least with a game like Counter Strke you die for a while, there are pauses between levels but most of all you can quit and join at anytime.

Its a pity that doing more productive things aren't as fun.

Well... there is no 'Win' in WoW It's just a persistent world. You can log off anywhere although logging at an inn is better and you can always go park somewhere you don't expect to die and go do what you need to do. Sometimes something finds you and is in process of whomping and sometimes it isn't, big deal. I've put long hours into the game but never to an extent that it would kill me. I think this is being exploited and may not be the whole truth of what happened. I can easily put 40+ hours into WoW a week. I don't all the time but that's still a ton of time outside of a full time job. I'm only dying as fast as most people as far as I know. There have to be other vaiables that aren't being explored.

I can normally go to the bathroom, and get a snack in the time it takes for me to fly from one location to the next.

I have made a meal in the time it takes for me to get from Oggrimar to Gadgetzan. There are plenty of oportunities to take breaks.

If you keel over and dye from constant game playing there is something very wrong with your priorities. Many people can devote their lives to a game. They work, and game. I know peolpe who do this. It is their choice, but at the same time, they know that if they wish to be able to continue to play they have to keep themselves healthy. This means keeping somewhat clean, eating, and performing other appropriate actions.

It takes only a min. of time ( give or take) to run to the fridge / bathroom/ other basic human needs

To Die because of a game "stopping you" from doing what is required to survive is just stupid (assuming this story is true)

Besides...Its Hard to play a game if your dead

This Coming form a another gamer might I add

And I thought I was Insane ( Even My Imaginary Killer Hamster Is Shocked at this)

Dirty Hordeling!

It's all a priorities thing, which is why I've had a level 60 char since March and my other chars are 45, 25, 24, 24 and 19, yet I've never even bothered to get into any of the major end-game raid instances yet. Spending 4+ hours of my time in a raid instance like MC just doesn't do anything for me.

Depends too on if the person in question was taking anything like No-Doze to stay away to play multiple continuous hours without sleeping. Still, no game is worth that amount of my time.
