I think this has something to do with an alpha layer and a gradient but I'm not sure what terms to use to get the right google search

I'm trying to recreate the effect on this page

Where the image fades into the solid color.

You can simply put a layer with the solid color you want, with a gradient in its mask, on top of your layer mish mash ( the actual image ) in PhotoShop and wooop ... or am I missing something
