My favorite comp has passed away. It is not only my favorite comp. I noticed it still was the repository for most, if not all of my recent code.

Two years of work or so.

...The hurricane Mauro stumbled in the cable, the comp was overheating since a few days. When it landed on the ground, it turned black. Upon rebooting it, it refused to find the hard drive. Well, not exactly, it's a lot worse, so much worse I don't even want to think about it.

And.
I AM the one to blame!!

...It's such a shock I can hardly believe it.
.. .. ..I need medication. Please send black pills.

I have strived to get a decent browser to work on my Mac OS 9 rescue machine.
I am on Opera 6.03 on Mac OS 9. Can you believe that?

Mac OS 9 sucks, big time, I have to code a decent browser for it once I am back to a normal, operable pc. Hell, I have to code a whole shell replacement for this one is a pitty.

..Please donate. Black pills, cookies, anything goes. I'll also accept money (strictly to buy black pills and cookies, I promise).

I feel your pain.
Late summer this year I lost an 80Gb hd, backups on all photos and code, but lost 4,5 years of mails... No bootable linux cd's or anything helped, it just clicked, and clicked... The HD still lies on one of my desks waiting for that lotterywin so I can send it to rescue...

two words: data recovery ... those guys can do miracles ... as long as your hd platters are still in one piece ... few bucks for two years of work is nothing

One word, internet, and.. ta-daam!
Have bought a new HD. Installed a Windows. Gained 60GBs.

The default Dell setup CD was terribly lacking in drivers,
so after some fine partitionning / tuning, installed a Suse 9.2,
and downloaded necessary drivers.. for Windows (priceless stuff:
the best tool to get Windows to work... Linux)

Now, the HD is bigger, faster, better, and less noisy.
Cool.

On to the data: beyondwonderland hosts the source code to most of my java projects.

It's just laying there, hidden until I have an automatic gplicense/zip/download
snippet up and running.

My "more serious stuff" is in the hands of my teachers and workgroups! Basically,
the core of my portfolio.

And * Asylum magic in action *, the very last project on my hands,
some cpp/java stuff, is available directly from the Server-Side forums

The only things I really lost is the entire NiN video/audio collection, and some stock pictures

~huuge relief.

~It's alive. ALIIive!

I am setting up mighty gpu drivers at the moment, to further tweak and code and play around.

Thanks to all of you who contributed in any way.
(free from the dreaded Mac OS 9... it feels so good to run a freshly formatted
system).
