Or is it just me? For the past few days (or maybe even a week or so), the Asylum has been very sluggish for me. Sometimes when I click on a link it will just sit there until it eventually times out. Same thing for the RSS feed. Then, a few minutes later, it will be back to (more or less) normal. But this seems to happen a lot. I was wondering if it was happening to anyone else.

Yeah, I have problems with it sometimes. I think it's more of DreamHost's database problems.

Yep yep, I can get here about half the times I try over the last couple weeks. Then if I do get here, the odds haven't been so good that I can make it to any threads.

I was thinking it was somehting on my end since I've been timing out at a few other places too (but not as much).

This has been happening to me on and off for a while now. I just take my lumps and suffer in silent ignominy until the server gods see fit to open the pipe a bit more.

Slower than hell for me too. On the upside, figured it was something on my end so got around to some sorely neglected maitainence.

Ok, this sounds like déjà-vu, I've said it before, but I'll try to rephrase it.

Mad Scis have little if any reason to trust me.
But whatever happens with the db, web server, whatever, hurts.

Technically, requests that tend to timeout may be handled by a mirror: that's the only way I see to avoid these lags.

AND I have a website, beyondwonderland, which can hold 2GB data, several databases, and several GBS of monthly bandwidth for free.
So I'll renew my proposal: what if I physically signed a written agreement not to bitch, fuck up and react on a whim, to give the confidence a booster,
and legal basis.

Allowing Mad-Scis to trust me (a written agreement is also known as a contract), and bw to act like a mirror.

Just a thought.

I have noticed the slowness as well.

I has been slow for me... I knew it was the Asylum though. I never really got mad at it, just a bit fustrated because I'm so spoiled with cable. I expect things to show up when I want them (I'm talking about Internet here).

Anyway, I do hope it gets fixed soon.

Indeed the asylum's slow again these days.

It's not the same database problems we were having with Dreamhost in the past.

I don't find the whole database locked when the asylum seems to hang these days.
That was the usual symptom the last time we had serious trouble.

_Mauro, thanks for your proposal - but if we decide on a mirror (which technically is a lot of work,
even if we used nntp to stay in sync), I'm voting for something independant of anyone's development / personal webspace.
Not that I believe that a mirror is an appropriate solution for a forum that delivers around 7000 pages a day, though.

I'll be dropping Doc a line - maybe DH will tell him what's up.

So long,
