It'd be nice if various uncommon chars weren't output as untransformed entities.

Just so I understand the problem,
did you type those as entities or as the characters?

The approximation symbol (the one replaced by 8776) I input directly (CTRL+SHIFT+2248) as the character. The others I copied and pasted as characters.
