Ok, I'm pretty sure it's not just my company but every company I've ever worked for has an I.T. department that thinks they shit gold, are all empowering, and think they know every damn thing about computers. I give most of them credit as they do tend to know their shit, but sometimes, they have the personality of a pea, on her period. Really irritating stuff. And being the web designer for this particular company, they show even less love as they probably feel threatened by my presence here, even thought I don't know shit about networking aside from what I did at my home studio.

Ok that was my first rant... this next one is just a question to parents...

Last night about 10pm'ish my sons phone recieved a text message (he's 10) and being the curious parent wondering who the hell is texting him at 10 at night, there was a link to an online gallery and apparently one of his classmates really likes him and sent him a picture of herself, all made up (10 years old mind you) blowing a kiss to him saying "I love you.".... So I did what every concerned parent would do..... told my wife. She then proceeded to call her mom and proceed to be Jacklyn Bauer in interogation mode... (if you dont understand, don't ask...)

And that was just my monday!

Gee, I had to pay the girl in Kindergarten during recess a nickel to look up her dress.

These days, they send you an MMS with pics included?

Kids these days...

These days, you'd have been arrested and registered as a sex offender, all the while with parents lamenting the good old days when children were innocent and didn't think of such things...
The girl would be in therapy to help get over her trauma.

right, but first the girls parents would sue the boys parents for 1000000$ in order to handle all the costs and other efforts caused by her trauma and mental disorder

Arrested at age 5?

Not back then...hehe.

Besides, they would have had to arrest all of us

A quarter to touch it...

Those sure were some milkless days back then...

Don't even get me started on the whole myspace thing. I've personally had my own bad experiences with it so of course I don't want my older son messing with it. (15yrs)
So I came home one day last week and checked my browser and noticed the history was gone.... (duh) So I click on the address bar at the top and there were all the links he visited on myspace... talking all kinds of nonsense.... couldn't believe it.

Confronted him on it, left it in his hands saying I trust him. I have access to his page now and Mom doesn't know. Is that a good or bad thing?? Any parents in here have myspace issues?

As long as he is not a member of MyG0t...or involved in the Austria Pr0nring...

15 I think is one of those years of manditory stupidness and major foot-in-mouth syndrome.

Well, except in my old Hood - then it was major fist-in-mouth syndrome

I think telling him you know he's been doing these things, that you don't approve and you trust him to do the right thing in the future is a good way to handle it. However, I think it is important for you to find a time to privately talk to his mother about the situation and the two of you make a decision about how to deal with any future infractions. You have already taken action without consulting her and this could be seen by her as you taking her authority away. However, if you take the situation to her and come to an agreement on any future actions before the two of you start acting independently, it will be better for you and the kid.

This is yet another reason why I'll never be having children.

Were I in Rob's place, I would have gone a step further: I don't care what children see on the Internet. I really, truly do not. And any being that sprung forth from my seed would have the capability, if not bred into him than urged out of him with his upbringing, to know better than a) using MySpace to go hook up with anonymous strangers at the age of 15, b) to be deeply, horribly scarred from 'adult' talk.

Me, I'm tired of helping children. Save the Children! Save the Children! Fuck the children.

Not aimed at you, Rob, you're obviously doing well with your son. He's well-adjusted, has a knowledge of right and wrong, and even is aware enough to try to cover his tracks. You're fine.

But for the rest of this goddamn world, coddling children actually means coddling parents who shouldn't have spawned. Children get entirely too much attention these days and it goes to truly embarrassing lengths. Stop trying to protect children so much, people, because you're making them soft and pointless. Expendable humans to further the embarrassing chug-chug of industry. Generation after generation of thoughtless children destined for nothing greater than head fry cook.

Again, to be certain Rob, this rant is totally seperate from you. You're fine. Fuck the rest of 'em.
