ok i am working on an interface for a customer, yes i know its outdated but it's what they want comments crits tec. the text and logo's aren't in their final versions.

my thoughts...

interface:

not happy with the grey inner circle that the text sits on but can seems to create a realistic metal to match the rest.

the rest i am pretty happy with...

mockup 1:

this is where the interface will sit, the images currently there will appear dissapear as you move the mouse over the different logos...

my thoughts JAGGIES ..... cant seems to get a straight line when cutting the flashes and scope out of the original photo, colour scheme i am happy with but open to suggestions.

mockup2:

main page style for the site

my thoughts: JAGGIES again same issue with straightlines on cutouts.

when the site redesign is done i will throw it up into site review but this is more about the photoshop stuff done so far.

Easiest solution? build the whole thing from scratch. In so many cases, 'real' doesn't look as good as computer generated - when you are viewing something on a computer especially. The real world doesn't have those nice crisp pixel edges or those perfect circles

The jaggies - a diagonal line on a square grid is always jagged. You need to soften the edge - the age old trick of filling a selection of the layer with black, blur at .5 pixels and place behind the layer works wonders. There are countless other ways to soften an edge, but that one serves a variety of purposes at once and is a 'tried and true' method for me in this type of situation.

Yup, got that. Creating the whole lens from scratch removes the necessity of 'recreating' anything to match the original, gives you greater control over all aspects of the color and texture, avoids the imperfect edges that become problemtatic with a photo like that, the glare, etc. A series of selections with fills and gradients is all it would take to make this from scratch.

Just a thought...

As for the colors - look fine to me. Not an 'ooh ahh' but doesn't need to be for this.

DL i understand what you are trying to say all great and valid points, i talked to the client today and they want to stay with that mock-up style as in a photo based image, guess i shot myself in the foot here and showed them the concept too soon
