Hi there,

I've recently moved into a new department at work and am expected to learn flash kind of on the job...

The standards that the company develops flash to are really high, we follow strong OOP practices, and everything is written in AS 2, the regular Flash IDE is never used.

To help me get through this I'm reading the book, Object-Orientated ActionScript from friendsofed, but I'd really like to get a course in my brain as well, as I'm lacking practical applications currently.

Can anyone recommend a good or at least reasonable Flash course, that covers some AS 2 coding?

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

kimson

Have you had a look at O'Reilly's books? I've only heard good about his books and courses. He's got quite a few books on Flash and AS, but here is one on Action Script 2 in particular.

I have (and have read) the book kimson linked to, and I'll toss a recommendation in for it. I had to write a Flash audio streaming player for listening to voicemail via the web and that book crashed me into ActionScript after about a day.

Thanks for the advice, I'll make sure I check out the book.

I am, however, looking more for courses at the moment, that will help me get started, I much prefer a practical approach to theory, is there anyone that has any information about courses or even where to look to find one?

Cheers,

Collin Moock's essential actionscript books are fantastic. I refer to them frequently. It is by far the most recommended. Also, if you need to learn it quickly. http://lynda.com has a great line up of actionscript video tutorials. $25.00/ a month, and the first 5 tuts on each lineup are free...

I'm working with MTASC and SWFMill to produce my flash projects, does anyone have any experience working with these and can they offer any advice on tutorials or guides?

I'm working essentially without the Flash IDE, all work is generated from ActionScript files. It's so difficult to find any resources (even from inside the Open Source community) to help with building swf's in this way, any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,
