Heh - made me think of The Island, when Sean Bean's character is working on his desktop (literally). About bloomin' time this sort of thing became a reality; it has been possible for donkey's years. I want it. I want it all over. Not just tabletops - everywhere. Walls, floors, ceilings (I can use a step-ladder), etc. Everywhere.

I don't care wether it is a Microsoft product or not, this is very exciting
Just imagine what you can do with it! Imagine editing sound or video on this!

Yes! Yes! Aaargh imagine changing the environment you live in with live videos of a forest, with sounds and smell diffusion! Then when you get fed up of the woods, go to the beach!

It's a really slick ad and makes it sound as if MircoSoft has made a huge innovation in technology, but I wouldn't want to work on it for more than about ten minutes at a time. I suspect this product will increase the incidence of repetitive stress for anyone who uses it for extended periods. You'll notice the ad emphasized only activities where you would be interacting with the device for short periods.

When I heard about it I immediately searched for 'microsoft surface' + 'ripoff', etc., but found only a couple people saying 'they ripped off iPhone/Mac OS' ... which was like an extra bonus of funny.

Not the least bit revolutionary or new, but it _is_ nice that someone's putting forth a finished product and working to saturate the marketplace.

/me waits for the <$1,000 model and the new Linux distros.

I think that's really the key point. The technology may not be new, but why haven't more people been doing anything exciting with it??

Liorean - I do believe you'll find that MS Surface is actually derived from Jeff Han's work on Multi-Touch technology. I could be wrong.

Probably because they don't have the partners and brand recognition and advertising funds Microsoft has. Still, I'm sure had someone been motivated or smart enough, it could've easily been done.

Agreed. Microsoft, I think can take this into the mainstream.... If they can convince business owners that some
productive increase will come out of it...
