Coding Horror: Measuring Font Legibility

Jeff Atwood writes an interesting data-based article on the design considerations behind fonts on highway signs and how they relate to the web. He looks into how exactly the fonts are better and how they got data to back it up. He talks about his love for Road Signs and Icons where he mentions this cool website with a nice analysis of current web design trends: Web Design From Scratch: Current style in web design

Article 1 is interesting, but so questionable. I read through, then read through the comments, and there was that guy who switched from Windows
to Mac OS, print graphics guy, worried about fonts a lot.

He was worried, and then happy on Mac, very happy with the fonts there.

Perception.. My main concern, as far as Microsoft are concerned, lies in their way to ease out the user's job by taking charge,
emphasis on "by taking charge" as opposed to "by trying to meet a demand" or "caring about a concern".

I don't want to go in their direction at all.

And the consequence of that philosophy is : so many software layers of complexity that things get out of control and loads of service packs
are required for each version of Windows.

Article 2 : guy makes points that can hardly be questioned. But his design is broken in my Konqueror (love a browser that really feels new to me btw..)
Good reads though, both.
