I have a flash file that I'd like to play on my 'puter, but I don't want to have to load it up in my browser. I know that there are (allegedly) stand alone players, but I can't seem to find them. I have searched the Adobe site, but all I can come up with are the regular installers. These apparently only install the browser plug-in. Anyone have any advice?

Thanks, zavaboy. One question, though: have you used this yourself? I'm a little wary of downloading and installing an exe on my system that I am not completely sure about, and I have no idea if this site is trustworthy or not.

I did not use this particular exe, no. But I did get one with my Flash 8 installation. I can email it to you.

The standalone that comes with the latest Flash is probably best.

I wonder if IrfanView would suffice.

I know that's beside the point but what's the problem with loading the SWF in a browser window/tab ? I for one ALWAYS have a (few) browser(s) open.

The problem is that I want it to load up in a relatively small window, and I don't want to have to shrink my browser to that size. I usually only have one browser window open at a time, with a whole crapload of tabs. I suppose I could open another browser entirely, but it just seems annoying.

reisio: does IrfanView actually play interactive Flash files? It looks like more of an image viewer. Then again, I wouldn't really know the difference. I'll have to check that out.

Oh I see, I'm afraid you need a better browser

Seriously tabs are an ersatz of MDI.

OTOH, if you like that Flash file so much, you could as well spent 5 minutes and write and bookmark a page embeding it in the size of your choice.

I don't see how Opera's MDI would be more useful than any other engine, properly utilized.

Anyways, if zava sent him the standalone all further posts are academic.

The fewer app runing the better. In this 21st century of ours, it's quite likely that geeks like us have a browser open, therefore there is no real need for a standalone Flash player.
