Sesame Street DVD Deemed Adult-Only Entertainment

quote:
According to an earnest warning on Volumes 1 and 2, ?Sesame Street: Old School? is adults-only: ?These early ?Sesame Street? episodes are intended for grown-ups, and may not suit the needs of today?s preschool child.?

I am at a loss for words.

I am speechless. Even though I was not born in the 60s, I grew up with Sesame Street in the 80s, and I think that even today those old shows are not entirely politically correct.

OK, pardon me if I ride the elephant around the room, but can I just clarify a few things amidst the sound of all these jaws hitting the floor? We're all shocked/speechless/jawless not because of the content of these old shows, but because these programs are now considered too whatever for young children raised in a completely pansified society, right? I mean, maybe it's silly to have to clarify that, but you never can tell.

Anyway, I don't know why you're all so surprised. It's not like we couldn't see this coming--what with them banning tag in school playgrounds and all that crap. Fifty years down the road, Elmo and Barney are going to be considered hard core, the gateway to a life of drugs, sodomy, and crime. Heck, the wheels of the apocalypse are probably already in motion.

Wes: I wasn't aware that was something from which we were supposed to recover... I loved that cartoon!

I can't speak for the others, but that applies in my case.

I just cannot believe this crap! WTF is American Society turning into?

What is next, ban Barney? (ok, I am actually for this, but still.... )

Humpty Dumpty was actually carried down on angel wings where he remembered to always listen to his mother.

(What kind of a name is 'Hump'-ty, anyway. The scandal!)

DL: Still Western culture, though, no? I wouldn't say that Korean (or, say, Japanese) culture is becoming pansified. If anything, we're on the very wrong end of PC over here and could use a dollop or two (or ten) of it.

WS: Nursery rhymes should have been banned long ago! Those perverse, subversive little poems poisoning the minds of our children! For shame!
