First things first, one of mines : how to preload part of a youtube video using js?

Three steps :
1) Inject embed code without autoplay in a layer
2) Let it load for some predefined time
3) Reinject embed code this time with autoplay

Your video starts instantly and if you have a decent bandwidth, you can "dare" to synchronize some js anims with the video.

More of this, a bit too "MySpace-ish" to my taste but useful, still :

You know, there's little I hate on the web so much as video or audio that starts automatically... If I were a browser maker, I'd make bloody sure that it could never happen. Preferably I'd make sure the browser always provides a volume control, which defaults to muted.

One of the reasons I still use ff as my main browser instead of op is that it has that great extension FlashBlock!

I hate autoplay. But youtube (video publication for free and for all) and web radios are great ways to convey information.
I wish you joy with FlashBlock, must be cool. I guess

(and by the way, this is about my 32 liner which requires some sound)
(and without Flash, you can't hear the music of poi's Neja)

argo navis: funny trick with the "preload" delay before appending the OBJET in autoplay. My next prod might not use Flash at all. Why should I when HTML 5 provides a way to play OGG Vorbis.

liorean: why don't you disable plugins by default, and only enable them on a case by case ?

Turns out the trick doesn't work as well as expected for youtube - and specifically youtube (because
of the clustering, it's not really the same stream source every time) (so I'll have to settle for no sync or
another provider with permanent links to the sources).

And yeah, I agree with the bits about html 5 - the fact that audio/video
is now part of the specs, by the way, tends to outline the importance of those on the web.

My 2 cents.
